Sun Spot Cycle: Solar Minimum Often Means More Winter Snow Long Range Solar Cycles There is a theory that there is a longer cycle of the sun that can relate to global climate. The Maunder Minimum occurred at the time prior to the US Revolution. This is marked by extremely hard winters and shifting of farming from northern latitudes in Europe. There is growing support that the recent slow solar cycle may lead to an extended period of hard winters and perhaps global cooling. Modeling shows lower solar activity for the rest of this century.
Well let's see, over a foot on ground before thanksgiving.. Avg here for this time of year is 50 days 30 at nite. We've been 20 degrees below average for 3 weeks. NYC got heavy snow.. Yup time for a new theory!!
I've heard some talk of this for a while now. Some researchers are saying we are heading towards a serious global cooling cycle according to the activity of the sun. I would be more inclined to believe the solar cycles influencing climate before I buy the man made climate change theories. Do I think we have had a minor impact? Yeah sure somewhat. Do I think the earth is gonna explode if we dont all start driving a Prius? Absolutely not. Last time I checked the sun plays the greatest role in global temperatures.
.but, but, but this would put a huge dent in my plan to buy cheap land in Greenland to build a sunny warm retirement retreat. This is no good, no good at all.
It was supposed to be 50 and sunny here today. Turned out to be fully overcast and low 40's. The guessers can't get a 24 hour weather prediction right, I'm not sure about a winter forecast. Be prepared and let it ride.
