I know what you mean, the prices are crazy. We get the Aldi stuff...mostly under $2 a bag. There are a few things we don't buy there. Deli meat and my wife isn't a fan of their cottage cheese. We've bought meat there; mostly chicken. It's good. If you time it right and they mark it down, you can get it for really cheap. When we buy in bulk: Season, vacuum seal, freeze, sous vide as needed.
After a holiday like Thanksgiving and Christmas you can really get some bargain deals on various ham cuts and whole frozen turkeys. Last year the ham chunks were as low as .59/ #.
And no offense was taken-at all! (Butt I duz half reeding skillz......jest dunt uze tham all da tyme!)
We have an Aldi not too far from me. Some things are good, and some just weren't. They were definitely cheap, but we have a local chain that already has pretty competitive prices and more selections than you can imagine. Maybe I just couldn't get used to the weird 3 isle store?
I walked into Aldi’s on a drumstick markdown and bought 10 packages, got ‘em home and vacuum packed them all up into 4-5 piece packages and in the deep freeze they went. Big score that day!! Another day while shopping there, I heard a lady asking where their brand of chicken was packaged (the same stuff i buy there) the employee got the manager and he said it comes from Tyson! HA! How bout that! ~Lissa[/QUOTE]
Less than a buck a gallon if you go electric. Seriously thinking about it here. Both vehicles need replacement
I like the layout of the store. I think it's efficient to move around in. Zigzagging through a regular grocery store can be a chore.
We hit an Aldis yesterday. Milk was around 1.50 a gallon; nice. Gonna have to try one of their hams soon.
That's a steal . Wife's got me looking to score a huge butter hoard so she can get the elves working on Christmas cookies. I've seen it for 1.99 there in the past. Menards has done better a couple of times with it at 1.99 during an 11 percent sale
I had a butter hoard once. Cases of one lb blocks of butter. Tons of cheese too. Had a tractor trailer accident one night and they condemned the load. We had so much dairy products around the shop!
The hams are good! My recent favorite are some of their salamis. There's one that has wine in them, a couple of variations. Good at first, but I found one that was hiding in the snack drawer for at least 6 months (unopened). Exquisite. I'm not kidding. Whatever aging did to it made it fantastic.
Cheapest prices on butterball turkey it turns out! No required 25 dollar separate purchase like the other stores that are close in price.
The one we go to had the turkey deal as well. Limited it two per customer. We almost bought one just because. Then realized we don' exactly have the freezer space. Bought a bag of their cheddar and sour cream potato chips. They're good! Really similar to Ruffles.
Nick is addicted to those cheddar and sour cream chips! Lol I don’t dare come home from Aldi’s without a bag ~Lissa
2 local chains here that we frequent . One has good quality cheap meat , the other produce and neither of them are busy places. The aldi store parking lot is FULL every time I go by. I'll spend a couple extra bucks to save time and retain my sanity!
