Not counting a few divorces, the only court issues I ever had was with the EPA.

They like to throw their weight around, but they looked pretty sheepish when we finally walked out of court.

So, this morning I went trolling e-bay, Craigslist, and a few other sites across the Country looking at more stove prices! I came across several of the big boy Fishers and of course 4, XL's. Now all very pretty, but not worth + $3000.00:eek:o_O :jaw: :headbang: :picard: That's just "INSANE" prices and thats why old wood stove prices are through the roof!!! It's no different than any collectable, look at cast iron pans. 10 years ago you couldn't give them away! Now that people have realized they are making a comeback for use and are desirable, I've seen pans at +$350.00 that I've given $5.00 at a yard sale. These prices are people just trying to gouge others and sadly if your stupid enough to pay the kind of money some are asking, then you must have "PLENTY" of money to burn! "no pun intended" I even seen a real rough Fisher Grandma for $650.00. If your patient stoves will come out of the wood work. These folks that are selling these stoves for "CRAZY" prices, well those stoves will sit and sit... Another sad thing is this $#!T drives the market up on other things as well and they don't see that. Oh well, :(

Well Said Dave. The prices on the old smoke dragons boggles me. Here is a Drolet Wood Stove on CL for $500, guys states that it has never been used. It's been on CL for about 3 months now. I am a little surprised it hasn't sold. If you love hockey you gotta have this.

This one isn't, but it is probably as priceless as the man's paintings (Picasso).

Not really a smoke dragon though, or if it is, it extracts all the heat out of it by the time the smoke exits the house. I think it would be a little tough to convince Mrs. Lodgetree to pose with this stove though.

Now that is a true Beast! Can't imagine how long that much cast iron takes to heat up..that has to soak up every BTU from the combustion. That is also a pretty big pipe coming out the top, maybe bigger than 12 inch? I love that stove...can't be too many of those around at all. European I would think?

I don't have a EPA stove. Just wondering why some don't like them.

They were made in France, a Cast Iron/Terra Cotta hybrid of sorts I guess, you can see from the cast iron portion that it's sole function was to vent as much heat from it as possible.

I noticed the big pipe too. There are other pictures of these stoves on the internet and they too have big, big stove pipes too. I am assuming to get as much draft as possible from them.

As a side note, can you imagine trying to maneuver one of these stoves into your home? It looks a little top heavy, not to mention the top being a little fragile with the Terra Cotta. It would take more then a case of Budweiser to keep your buddies from taking off on doing that stove move.

Their beliefs, and it was "POUNDED" in the brains of many for years that the old stoves were killing the planet and killing us! :headbang: There are some EPA stoves that are just fine but it goes back to "Government control"! 10,000 million acres of woods have burned in the last 200 years but it was the old wood stove thats killing the planet! :p Typical Knee jerk reaction some law makers do to feel good and think they're saving the world!

Yes there were! And, if you knew how to, you could get the older stoves to do close to the same by baffle, dry wood, temperature regulating etc... It was all a blame game. :picard:

There is yet another side to this too, like my New Yorker WC 90, a really nice boiler that was in production for forty years. Suddenly it was no good and killing us all? I don't think so. Evil corporation that just did not want to change? Nope, just a well made, simply designed stove.

    It worked.
    People bought it.
    People told more people.
    More units sold

    Rinse and repeat!

I am not a conspiracy theorist at all, but can you imagine the 2018 phone call back to George Washington in 1776. "Hey Geo buddy, you ain't gonna believe this boss, but the Gov is telling us what we can burn wood in. Yeah, no joke Brother."

Just spotted a very nice looking Papa bear on CL. I don't need it but as a hoarder, I'm always interested. Seller has asking 600 - Ha!

Add said call or text - I texted him and said I am very interested but can only pay 200. .......never heard back. He will have that stove for a long time.

The EPA regs of regs of the 80's shut down a great stove manufacturer that is only 2 miles from me - Brunco Stove. They had some great units which are still in service in this area today.
