Actually, 49 1/2. Loaded it up at 6 Tuesday evening, and just filled it up for the next couple of days. I was gone yesterday, and got home today around noon. The family is out of town, and I'm pretty sure the dogs didn't add any wood. 49 3/4 hours later. And, the shoulder season glass
That was all oak, Dave. Mostly because I have a rack up here by the house that was for sale and didn't get bought. Pretty sloppy around my stacks. I don't know about the level of comfort in here. I'm sure if everybody else was home it woulda been different. No complaints from the dogs, tho.
I understand you can get crazy burn times....how much heat is that stove throwing at that point? It would have to be smoldering for a long time to burn that so slow!
When I went to bed at 7, the stove top was about 550, thermostat closed all the way, and blowers on low. When I got up at 1 am, stove top was at 500 and the cat was glowing brightly. I shut the blowers off and left, so I'm not sure what happened between then and noon today. When I got home, the stove top was around 200, inside temp was in the mid 60s, mid 60s and windy outside. Yesterday, I was 100 miles south of here. Temps were in the low 50s and breezy, and low 40s and breezy when I got up at 2am. I think it was similar here, and had everybody else been home, I'm sure the stove would have been burned a little harder, and two days on a load wouldn't have happened.
I gave up on the monster oak splits this winter. They were great for the early part of the burn, but the resulting coal bed would last FOREVER, and not make enough heat to keep this place warm. I found myself constantly pulling coals up and tossing a skinny ash split on top to make some heat. Mixing in ash and elm with smaller oak splits was the ticket for me. The big oak splits are perfect for more moderate weather, and this time of year.
Alien technology I tell ya....... Nice burn.. Every time I see one of these threads....... I want one again...... Happens every Spring/Fall (shoulders) One day... One day I will have one.
Well, I deliver to some of your favorite fast food restaurants, and the middle of the night is the only way to do it in a lot of places. And my route is one of the later ones. It is a pretty intense day and a half, but I only do it twice a week. Money is good, and it lets me spend a lot of time at home.
I don't even know. I think around six, but it is hard to tell. I had to bust into different stacks, depending on where the snow drifts told me get it. Then there was the bottom layer or two that was buried in snow, then under water. And I sold some. But six is my best guess.
