    IMG_1258.JPG IMG_1259.JPG IMG_1260.JPG IMG_1261.JPG IMG_1262.JPG I got this guy tonight from a CL add.
I'm almost embarrassed to say what I paid. I will say I paid what he asked.
Needs a brake handle and smells gassy so probably a new fuel line.
Started and ran in the Cumberland Farms parking lot with gusto!
I'm digging the pull cord handle.

Looks like it's earned it's keep.
I can't seem to find any deals lately and it's not for lack of looking!

It has certainly been used but by the looks of it not commercially, it's still pretty clean and no structural damage seen yet. The missing throttle boot has me curious.
    I'm optimistic!

Just saw the Craigslist add, definitely a “you suck” buy.

    Now that's a You Suck!
Did you put out the beacon on the FHC classified or some of the other sites for the worm gear? Or HL Supply? Make sure to check the oil pump is ok before you tear up a new one, once you find it.
I've got the 281 on a 288 chasis and had fun running through some big oak last weekend down at MikeInMa's place.

pump is good. Would it pain you to hear that I also got a 298xp in good working order for free? I call it "big nasty". The only thing wrong with it is the brake band is snapped. I'm not a husky guy but I couldn't say no to free 81cc and 99cc saws

image.jpg Sporting a new clutch cover and a break handle, just in time for the holidays!
Now I feel more comfortable putting the bar and chain on and giving it few cuts.
One thing I did discover is that the high idle it had in the Cumby's parking lot is because it was set that way. Learning as I go, some carbs have Jet screws on the idle where righty tighty chokes the fuel. Others, like this Tillitson and a Zama, I worked on this weekend on a 350, is opposite because there's a mechanical link to the throttle; one step removed. So lefty Lucy has the same effect as a jetted idle to the right.

So no unexpected wear/tear on it after cutting that oak?
