IMG_20181110_170938480.jpg IMG_20181110_171239237.jpg So looking for suggestions on saving these 3 chains. They are Mall scratchers and I was told that there unused. So electrolysis, phosphoric, beet pulp........ what's your go to method ?
Acres site says my saws longest bar was 144" so my plan is to fabricate a bar and use the 3 chains to make 1 long one.
Also if anyone knows of a 8',10' or 12' Mall bar that's available......
As always thanks for any opinions

That’s a whole lot of chain. Well above my knowledge and pay grade. I hope you can save them for your project

Electrolysis may work. Seems like WeldrDave was one who'd used it. Or if not, maybe he'll know who.

Soaking in muriatic acid will definitely take it to bare metal as well, and they'd need to be oiled immediately afterward

Yup, you can make a simple electrolysis tank and it'll clean them up. It'll take a day or so. You tubes got lots of ways to make one. If you have a simple 10amp battery charger, you can make a electrolysis tank. Washing soda from the store and your good to go!

I have one charger that if put on a dead battery won't do anything. I flash it with a DeWalt battery and off it goes.

Thanks for the replies ! Normally I glass blast but a crunchy sounding chain I don't want. Nervous about hydrochloric (muriatic) acid because of the chance that the chloride might aggressively attack the carbon in the tooth. I have 30+ gallons of phosphoric acid but I'm concerned about what will happen if I have them black oxided later. Never tried vinegar.... yet. Interested in the electrolysis method, also something I've never tried.

Also I should say I don't intend to actually run the fabricated bar or this chain. My wife said that I can hang ONE chainsaw from our beam ceiling in the stove room. Go big or go home.

I have not tried electrolysis either, but I've had very good success with auto trans fluid on rusty gummy chains. 2day soak usually.
Shame you can't find a bigger saw to put on display.:picard::eek::jaw:

Heres my simple set up, what you don't see is "washing soda". Add 1 cup to a tub this size. Heres some pan pic DSCN1945.JPG DSCN1953.JPG DSCN1946.JPG DSCN1518.JPG DSCN1519.JPG DSCN1605.JPG s I did some before and some fresh out of the electrolysis.

WeldrDaves setup is what I will try. Ebayed a nos manual 10 amp charger last night. Dang I tossed a lot of them in the past..... Need to come up with a tank, the chain that takes the most area is 52"x10". Actually a little excited to try this out.

My charger is "both" manual/auto. I just set it to manual mode. The tank is from home depot, it's just a heavy type storage container. Get ya some junk metal and go to town. "Be Patient"!!! It'll happen. I leave my stuff in at least two days sometimes or more if it's real bad.

Only charger I had with a manual setting started at 30 amps. Plenty of metal available here. I can be pretty patient..... well usually. I'll post some pics when I get going. Thanks

I have a few chargers, 30 amp is no big deal, you can use that just check it about every 6 hours. My small 10/2 amp I actually found at a garage sale cheap. Look at flea markets and if you have a Tractor supply close they have good sales. Maybe walmart...

Does the current capacity of the charger change the aggressiveness of the action ? I could hook it to my syncrowave ..... I wonder what would happen on pulse.
