Well my intent was to go look for pine knot but I wound up finding a dying maple. Did wind up getting the pine lighter too though

Here’s some of the pine. The store calls it “fatwood:D

By the way the new 455 rancher is awesome! Makes wood cuttin a whole lot easier. I have been without a big saw since I sold my stihl 271. Had forgotten how big of a difference a bigger saw is. If there’s one negative id say it’s a little heavy but I’ll gladly get used to that!

I've been saying that for several years. Power/weight is a bit lopsided, but I work around that.

Can't be mad at red maple. Burns well, leaves enough coals but not too much, dries on the quicker side. Good all purpose wood!

Nice work on the red maple. I have a bunch in my stacks, great firewood IMO. After I got sick of constantly fixing hand me down saws the first brand new saw I bought was a 455. I ended up sending it back because the Oiler wasn’t working right and would drain through a tank of oil way faster than the gas no matter how it was adjusted. Ended up exchanging it for a 346. Glad yours is working out for you.

Where do you find that fatwood, it’s in the stumps or something right?

red maple and oak are pretty much the only hardwoods I've got. I keep the maple separate from the oak because it dries so much faster.

I love my 455, no idea how many cords its cut. Without having it in front of me id say its over 12 years old and the only problem iv had was 2 months ago and that was a clogged oiler. Amazing saw!!!

Yup Rebel, that is fatwood. Some sell it online and get a good price for it too. It works great for starting fires.
