Tree ID ( Not for burning!)

Hi All,
We love the trees in front of our house.
Out of curiosity, what tree you think they are?

 

I'm gonnna guess elm from the leaf shape and color and from the way the tree canopy is from a distance. Can't tell if the leaves have stripes.

Ha, the little stripes and serrations, although the bark sure does look like some kind of cherry.
Might be one of the hybridized or imported elms as these appear to be planted street trees.

These look an awful lot like the trees they planted on a new cul-de-sac here.

 

You are right. It is a street tree.

 

I am also thinking a type of Cherry tree by the bark and we used to sell a bunch of different types in Ga

 

Agree on a Cherry variety. Bark is the clue. Not sure on exact type though. Lotta different hybrid Cherry trees out there.

 

It's some sort of hybridized ornamental.

 

The bark screams Cherry. The leaves look a little narrow though, I hope someone can nail it for you because now I wanna know what it is....

 

I have very little knowledge about trees and wood but I wouldn’t think of it as a cherry tree. But again, I am very inexperienced.

 

It's some sort of cherry. Narrow toothed leaves and bark all points that direction.

 

To me its Chinese Elm. Some of the trees have buttresses and I have never seen this on cherry trees but I have on elm. Also the bark looks like the Chinese Elm I have in my back yard. If they are Cherry, its some sort of ornamental.

Defintetly not an Elm, I also think some kind of ornamental hybrid Cherry. Nice to meet you chemiee , it must be tough hoarding in NYC. Good for you for doing so! Do you burn in a fireplace or stove, got any pics for us? You did a great job on the many pics of trees for ID purposes.

I am new to burning. We just installed Blaze King Ashford 25 fireplace insert last month.
There is a nearby forest filled with fallen trees from previous years. I try to cut from them and also hunting on Craigslist. Limited with the space for storage so I can only store what I burn this year.

 

Very nice insert, remember dry wood is the key, I know your short on storage space. How much room do have to stack wood in? Beautiful hearth, bet you can't wait for the first fire.

 

The close up pics are making me recant. Probably some sort of cherry.
