I really like the neatness in which you routed all the hoses.

On mine I have to put it in vertical position to gas it up. I ordered the table to protect the engine and also installed the log catcher on the opposite side as I don't like to bend over to pick up wood.

You’re splitting in vertical position right? Gas it up then, or just never split in horizontal and you won’t need the guard.

Hello to all. I only found FHC a few months ago, but I had been cutting and splitting for firewood for perhaps 50 yrs in the UK. I only just came across this thread on here, and of course it is of great interest, particularly if you are looking to construct your own splitter. For years I took a pride in splitting it all with a maul till suddenly I didn't feel up to a big dead ash so I constructed the splitter in my avatar. This has worked without a hitch for perhaps 12 years worth of wood burning for 6 month /yr, the only mod I have made is twin fold down tables each side. More recently a mate rang and said "you better come and take a look at this".......It was a Chinese kinetic...24hrs after giving it a workout for him I broke my rt ankle in a big way (my that hurt!, DONT do it) which left me around 8 months unable to do much but with plenty of time to ponder life...and research splitters , I ended up with this kinetic for myself...rated at 35ton and man is it fast. If you can lift it, this is the way. I am not a photographer..... IMG_0268.jpg IMG_0270.jpg

I should have stated that on my pic, yes the only way to gas it "with the table" is Vertical! :emb::whistle: and I knew that. My thinking was, what a pain in the &$$ if your splitting horizontal and you have to lift it when you need gas, oh well.

Because they figure you'll split the right way; vertically. Then no wood will fall in said engine! :p

After having back surgery 14 years ago, sitting and doing work like that would kill me. I only go vertical long enough to get large pieces down to a reasonable size. Standing and operating the splitter in the horizontal plane is less painful for me.
and I would never try to convince you, Backwoods Savage, to change what works best for you:handshake:

I hear you Erik. On the other hand, after having 3 back surgeries, there is no way I could stand to split wood. That kills my back.

I just gotta love both of you!!! Why,?.... Know matter what I do, my Freakin back hurts!!! o_O:( Up, down and so on. With that said, picking rounds up is ok till I find that one that "buckles my knees" then I'm done, and it doesn't have to be a real heavy one. Some days I'm superman and others I'm the Pillsbury dough boy... But, I do realize my lifting days are numbered. Chrissy was actually happy I bought the splitter so I don't have to pick up the big stuff!

Chrissy is right! You already have enough problems and the back is trying to tell you something Dave! Listen, my friend. Believe me, back surgery is not fun stuff.

I feel you buddy! I can do ok splitting standing up for awhile as long as someone else is bending over and picking up the rounds lol. But I can park my skinny little butt on a 5 gallon bucket cover and with a pickaroon I can swivel around and grab a lot of rounds to pull or roll in with a lot less trouble. About an hour at a time though and then the neck starts acting up and my arms get numb and painful at the same time. And hell no im not going for another surgery. They screwed my back and my life up enough already.
Pace yourself, that’s all you can do. It’s frustrating, especially when it’s a nice day out and you’re glued to the couch or the floor :headbang: I spend a lot of time like that when I don’t pace myself. Some lessons are just harder to learn, but it doesn’t help that the parameters keep changing either

I hear ya buddy and 1st advice you gave me when we met was save your body and your back and get a splitter!!! Am working on it, I see one in my near future! It might have to sit outside covered between a few trees till I get a shed build for it but think am gonna need one pretty soon!

Even if it's used, get one, there on Craigslist all the time and your in a good spot between central and south jersey. I wish I'd have done it years back, but it was one of those expenses i just "blew off" and I'm paying for it now. :picard: I'll be the first to admit my mistakes!
