Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

We may get it by the coming weekend. Calling for 20's to low 30's & snow here Thursday thru Saturday. They even used the A word! 48 Raining & windy here too. This is the weather where the boiler is really nice. Steady temp without having to guess at load size or decide whether or not to fire up.

 

The teens, for lows, will start on Wed night here.

49 outside, 73 in, put 3 splits in this morning and then the sun came out. Was 78 in here when we got back home at 12. No fire tonight, supposed to be in the 60's during the day then Wednesday evening the cold moves back in.

 

Very uncommon for us to be colder than you Rope.
Currently 9.5 below °F at the cabin here in Glennallen.
Poplar in the stove. Need to wait till tomorrow to get a new fuel filter , when the hardware store opens.

Getting Very tired of year round employment.
No time to cut firewood , no time to go hunting, no time to fix vehicles, heaters, 4 wheeler , ect.

Otherwise, as long as I can stay even keel with being a drone , I'm ok.
Last year round job I had was at the APC pulp mill in Sitka in 86+87. I remember now why I tramped and went back to tower loggin in Southeast.
I need a job like being a pipeline security guard. 2 on 2 off. Drive around in a company pickup , park and sit and look for hours on end.
All the while making more money than I am now.

 

Looks like we're walking into winter wonderland today. Although the temps haven't dropped yet, there's some kind of system rolling in. Sitting at -3 C feels -12 C, or 26 F feels 11 F. Wind bouncing between 20-30 mph and light snow so far. Forecast calling for -12 C or 10 F tonight, not counting wind, so the stove is going to start stretching it's legs a bit.

 

Sask; Where we are moving to this coming summer , Delta Junction , it blows pretty good in the winter. Similar ambient as where I now live, warmer than Rope. But, windy. Like where you live. Beautiful place tho.

Good morning. 5am coffee and a trip out to the shop to get the furnace going. Its 39f with some rain today. On a good note the well should be all set for a while.

 

Good morning. It’s 41 here now with a cold rain also, again. We’re definitely out of drought territory and it looks like the wet pattern will continue. It’ll be white for most of Maine Saturday and for all next week is the long range forecast. I wonder if it will stay?
It’s pretty warm in here. I have some pine going to burn down some coals and it probably won’t get anything else until tonight.

 

Looks like you have a nice stove Maina. Do you notice any difference in how it burns on a damp day with a EPA stove. I no my furnace doesn't like it.

 

I sure do notice a difference vs what I had. I’ve had no trouble at all with draft and I’m pretty amazed by that. Even on those rainy days where it climbed into the 50’s, the smoke dropped as it came out of the chimney when I had the bypass open but no smoke spilled into the house at all that I could see with the stove door open, but I did get a faint smell.
We also had an insulated liner installed in our exterior brick chimney to accommodate the new stove, and I think it’s a combination of the two. But the Jotul 3CB we had before was horrible for backdraft and I always had to open a window to light it, every time on a cold stove. Not anymore. We do still get a down draft in real warm conditions at times, but so far it’s been above any temperature I’d want to burn at anyway. This Fireview drafts beautifully on my 20’ exterior chimney even with stack temperature below 150F and I still can’t get over how easy it is to operate. It’s a true set it and forget it stove.

 

Id be loving that also. No more babysitting the stove on a day like today. Yesterday being a lot cooler my stove furnace ran well. I really look forward to a nice stove that's large enough to heat my shop and well seasoned wood to put in it. To be able to load it up and leave it for 6 to 8 hours would be a great thing. Thanks for the info.

You’re welcome. Depending on the size of your shop sounds like a Ideal Steel might be a great choice. You’d probably get way more than 8 hours with that. The basic model is really cheap money for the quality if you’re not looking for bling. Our Fireview is in a major living area so we went the ornate route per the wife’s vote. I’d be just as happy with a steel stove but this one is the best looking and most highly functional piece of art we own. I think their stoves are all works of art with the pride and craftsmanship they put into them. They’re an awesome company to do business with.

 

Winter did show up and here to stay I believe. Poplar in the reactor same as always.
