What is the average price per cord of green and seasoned firewood? In my area I have seen anywhere from $75 for a full cord of mixed wood "seasoned" for 6 months, to around $170 a full cord of mixed hardwood.
Price and True cost are very likely different as you probably won't know how much you get until you get it stacked! Gary
Full cords here only, by law in this state. Few people here sell green wood, and when they do they get an earful on CL. They usually want $150-200 for it. Seasoned here is usually one summer/6 months, $175-225 for fir, and $250-300 for hardwood, delivered. I get 2 year barn dried Doug fir for $175 delivered, which is about as good as you can get here.
I thought that you were gonna sell seasoned wood for $500 a cord on demand to drive-by Ore-gone-ians?
Also there has to be some secret to seasoning birch that eludes me. That stuff seems to be more suited for growing fungi here.
Yep; birch is similar to maple, it'll get moldy quick, sugar in the wood feed the mold & it grows fast. Gotta get it split & stacked reasonably quick. (Dead trees are already punky.) I do 1 year uncovered, 12" space between the 2 rows. (if it gets rained on a lot, it''ll start growing mold & get punky in 1 summer) Trick is to "Top cover " if more rain than dry days. Top cover only, space between the top cover & the wood, nothing on the sides, pallets on top then a tarp works. Mine then goes to the wood shed for 2 years before burning. The wood shed was a big key for me being able to store it a few more years. It has time to dry. Even winter cut birch is real wet. Get it split & stacked & top covered ASAP, the quicker the better.
