We were doing some loader work for my sister yesterday and when we got done, she told me that a tree guy had come looked at a job and hadn't been back in 2-3 weeks. I told her we might could do it for her. It was two big oaks behind her house. I have some equipment so, let's try it. First tree, no problem as it was leaning away from the house. Dropped it, bucked it and cleaned up limbs. On to the second one, couldn't get my cable up to the second fork, so got around first fork. Tied my block off to a big pine, ran cable thru block and hooked to 30hp Kubota, got a big bucket of dirt on the front, low gear, 4wd, got pressure on the tree...good to go...I thought... Cut my notch, started my back cut, my cousin had come by, said he would drive our tractor, he started pulling, uh-oh, tractor would only spin. Had to just hold it with our tractor. My cousin got his 60 hp tractor and big rope, managed to get the rope up to second notch. Got it on the ground finally. Guess all is well that ends well...did get nice pile of logs from the two trees...and she gave us the $$ she was saving for the tree guy.

We would love to show yall some Southern hospitality. I would like to have a southern GTG sometime, if I knew how to go about it. I would love to make a trip up north sometime and meet some of y'all.
You'd wanna plan it for the 'cold' season for us northerner's. Otherwise we'll all wanna be in the AC.
There is a knack to cutting just enough holding wood to keep the tree standing but not so much you cannot pull it over.

You guys were helping your sister out and then she asked you about the 2 oaks that some guy didn't get back to her about and you guys dropped them for her then got the wood plus your sister gave you the money that she was saving up for to give this guy? Just asking.
Yep, this I know. It had too much tree above my original cable hook up point and then a nice breeze blowing toward her house didn't help any. I even had two wedges in the back cut, couldn't make it turn...learned a few tricks, I did.
Something like that. I knew she was wanting the trees down, one of the trees had already dropped a couple big limbs on the house, messed up the roof both times, first one came all the way thru into a bedroom, I fixed that for her. So when I got finished moving the dirt she wanted done, I had some time left in the day, so I thought I could help her out.
Great job Jeff! There’s always something to learn as long as you’re paying attention, and obviously you were. Nobody got hurt is what really counts.
Of course it does. You have to use the correct tool for the job. Nice work! And is be up for a southern gtg in the early spring before it gets too hot down in Jawjaw.

Good you got that thing down in good shape. I am curious though why you hooked to the front of the tractor rather than the rear? Glad you had the bigger tractor to fall back on too. Yes, the extra weight is great.
