That is why I was wondering about the possibility of an hrv system . Typically on 4" ducting. In some areas it has become a requirement to meet code during construction. typical venting would be intakes in bath, bedrooms, and Kitchen. Normally the output of the hrv is fed into the cold air return to the furnace.

So the main take aways of the photos ( sorry I cannot edit the posts?)
The first group show the main living room, hallway, panel box closet, the vent going into the closet from my room. some random 2" conduit going outside ( which I found was use to run wires to the hot tub the previous own had)
The lack of any kind of insulation on the bare walls other than behind the sheetrock.

Plan right off the bat is to remove the 2" pipe and seal the hole. Figure out either blocking off that vent as mentioned before or trying to tie it into another pipe to feed air in.
Also some foam sheet to help with insulating that wall.

Side project the house is wired for a generator the previous owner did a good job of noting all 3 boxes and I want to set up everything to run the electric furnace and wood burner onto the transfer panel. So I can use a generator and still heat the house in the winter. ( Thermostats, Blower on furnace and power to the wood stove water pump ect)

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The furnace and water heater setup. Shows how the inlet and main outlet is setup the best I could get.

Shows a few more of the ducting and the dampers you guys were talking about. I found and tracked every one of them that go to ground floor vents. I cannot see how or where it goes to the 2nd floor. But every vent in the house blows air hard, with the exception of my sons room.

I saw a few posts asking if since it was sucking if it was the return. It is not the return. His room has a large return vent on the wall near the ceiling, as does my daughters room and our room. The bedrooms( 1 vent and 1 return each) have a jack and jill bathroom. Each room has a small room with a sink ( 1 vent each) and a shared bathroom with a toilet and bathtub (1 vent).
I am guessing that I just haven't found the damper for his room yet and it is probably closed.

Group 3 also shows in the last photo the outside view of the bay window that I was concerned about the cause of the air being fed into the bedroom making it freezing cold all the time.

And group 4 is all of the photos of below that bay window.
Im sorry I haven't had a chance to pull the plywood yet to see whats under there. I commute 2 hours a day for work and wife works nights. So most nights is dark when I get home and I have little dude to entertain. I plan on working on this sunday.

But I plan on taking the suggestions posted before and filling it full of foam sheet to stop the air, the caulking, and using great stuff to seal it up.
Also pulling the door to replace the threshold seal on the bottom of the door and adjust the latches to draw the doors tight into the seals.

Now that Ive kinda caught up. I'll go back through the comments and try to reply to all of them.

    Thank you!

Quick update. Sunday I was working on tracking the register from my sons bedroom ( sucking air lightly) Trying to figure out how the 2nd floor gets the air up I found the front door coat closet has a thick wall on the left and normal on the right. went into the basement and pulled down drop ceiling. That's when I figured out that the register in my sons room is ran into the basement but not installed to anything that could provide heat.
I have the main line off of the furnace about 8-10 feet from the pipe that goes up to my sons room. I guess Im going to use some 4 inch ducting tag the mainline, and run it above the drop ceiling.

overactor I would use 6'' round if at all possible. 4" will not provide enough airflow.

The lines coming off are a mixture of 4" and 6" I can probably get a 6 inch pipe there Id have to measure for clearance. My question is with his room only having 1 register/ vent would you still recommend 6? it should be pretty straight forward, a 45 off of the main trunk, 10 feet of pipe another 45 to where the pipe came through the wall into the basement it looks to have been squished into an oval shape.

No clue how they can only have 1 vent in a room but not have it hooked up to the heating system. it has a natural draw to the basement, and the cold air return is on the wall and it pulls down as well. So its basically sucking all the warm air down to the basement.

HVAC installer could have missed it when installing ductwork during construction, A 6" round will provide good airflow. Install a damper close to where it comes off the main duct to allow adjustments. Sound like they may have run an oval stack up to the room. If thats the case you will need some sort of oval to round boot to make the connection. I was an HVAC Installer for 12 years through the 1990's.fyi.

Thank you! I'll be kicking it around the house this weekend so I'll try to get my layout and possibly grab the parts and start working on it.
