I've been doing some reminiscing over the past couple of days about my childhood/formative years and have come to the conclusion that of the listed choices, it was the best decade to grow up in. The 80s were not without problems, but we also had a lot of really RAD and AWESOME stuff as well.

    -Bugle Boy Jeans
    -Polaroid Cameras
    -Book Fairs
    -Boom Boxes
    -Bigwheels
    -Pump up shoes
    -Shrinky Dinks
    -G.I Joe
    -Self Serve Slush Puppy
    -Swatch Watches
-Real Playgrounds where Injuries were fairly common
    -The Noid (to be avoided)
    -Tonka Toys
    -Trapper Keepers
-Ditto Machines (the blue inked, curiously additive smelling 'copy machine' that was operated with a hand crank)
    -Bob Ross
    -Break Dancing
    -Biking without Helmets
    -Waterbeds
    -Spuds McKenzie
    -The Walkman
    -Hands Across America
    -Garfield
    -Mall Culture
    -Scratch n Sniff Stickers
    -Trips to the Video Store
    -Super Soakers
-Rear Facing Seating in Station Wagons
    -Arcades/Atari/Nintendo

I'm not even going to start in on Music, Movies and Television Programming...no contest - hands down winner.

Probably the best thing IMO from the 80s was 'Free Range Parenting'. It's a bit corny, but I will always be grateful for my upbringing and glad it happened during the 1980s.

I've had a great life so far. I want to check more than 1 box. Went to college in the mid/late 90's and that was awesome. Got a real job and had no responsibilities in the early/mid 2000's so that was awesome too. Now I have some great kids, one of which is literally my clone and wants to do everything I do and loves to open daddy's beer so this decade is pretty damm sweet too! Oh and beer has been a great constant throughout all those times. Plus, technology is great but I'm sure glad as hell cell phones with cameras and social media didn't exist while I was in college and shortly after.

70ies if for no other reason I was twenty-something and single - went with adult life

over all disregarding my own age I really believe the sixties was a magical time and am kinda glad I was a teen then although sometimes I envy those a few years older than I who got to experience the time being a bit older.

I am partial to the 80's, I have so many fond fond memories of growing up in our row home in the city as a boy, especially around the holidays. My parents were healthy and my grandparents were still alive. 8o's toys, movies and music just brings back so many of those great memories of that era! When I hear a certain 80's song I am immediately taken back to when I was a kid. All the things RCBS listed are spot on, man I just had a flashback reading them!!

But am gonna also gonna take a page from jrider post and I look at each era like a chapter in a book. 80's were just magical, growing up in S.Philly I wouldn't have it any other way! 90's were high school and college, traveled a fair amount, man ole man were they some great great times, so many fun memories that my friends and still talk about till this day!! 2000, got a real job, bought my 1st brand new car or should I say Jeep, had my own condo, eventually met my wife, got married bought a home together! 2010, we began to have kids, raise a family, look at life and things much differently. I still away say I was a country boy who grew up in the city. Exposure to the places my father took me to fishing out in PA, Upstate NY, Canada, etc... stuck with me and I find myself recently wanting that more and more of that rural and quiet lifestyle.

The 50's were great years. We did not have 'helicopter parents. We were told to go outside and play and by the end of the 50's that included playing with BB guns. We got to see the inside workings of a telephone office in the days of party lines. We saw how eggs were candled and packed for shipment. Many days our playground was the woods surrounding the town. Riding on tractors where we stood by the driver and leaned against the fender. Riding on top of a load of loose hay and seeing how that got put into a barn. We experienced all of what a small town had to offer and more.

The late 50's thru 1990 for a long list of reasons. Current nonsense in society these days makes those times even more golden.

I hope I haven't had my best decade yet. Not that life hasn't been good, but I hate to think its all downhill from here.

I was born early 60's, I have experienced most of the decades listed. Good and bad in each. Today I have learned to (mostly) live my life in peace, regardless of whatever current stupidity is going on around me. These are the best for that reason.

But I really relate to the 70's ...:D

Great responses! Having only been present for four decades, I am unable to relate to the 60s and 50s other than what I've seen & read. Of the Two, Id likely choose the 50s over the 60s because of the Vietnam War. Many great things did happen also during that decade. Of course The Forgotten War was fought in the 50s, but does not seem near as tumultuous as the War on Nam. I was only 3 when the 70s ended, so I missed out on the good stuff from that era. I had figured someone would criticise me for saying the 80s had the best music...because the force was strong woth music in 70s! I still stand by my choice.

I was a teen through the 90s and life was pretty good as well through those years. Music was pretty danged good too. Technology was starting to creep pretty hard towards the millennium though. I'm not against technology (obviously...im posting on an internet forum) but as everyone knows who was around when you didn't have instant gratification in your pocket, things were simpler and more intimate...dare I say...better? Sometimes I'm envious of earlier generations...then I turn on the air conditioner and have second thoughts.

It's not been all bad for me in the 2000s. As stated above though...things have gotten...complicated these past 15-20 years.

When I see images of the 50s and 60s I see women in dresses and men in suits...very formal. I imagine most people were very polite and manners were to be minded. I envy that a bit. The moral compass of those decades seems to be what the standard should be IMO.

The 70s to me looked to be really a decade of free will. The war was ending and people wanted to have some fun again! The 60s looked to be a time of self expression and exploration. Love and Peace were the words of the day. There was quite a bit of division though...similar to today, with much less vitriol.

I have collected a selection of 80s memes to back up my selection for the greatest decade of my life. Luckily for me, I got to be a kid during them.

TBH I believe right now, this year has been pretty big, I quit my full time and officially started my business which has been doing decent enough for me, newborn baby girl, married 2 years now, together for 8, I've been getting some much needed improvements done on the house, life in general is just good. I really can't complain .
