When we were getting out the two oak blow down the other day, I noticed the big pine had recently died. It is one tall fella, probably pushing 120'. I cut one close to it several years ago that was 24" dia, pulled 100' of usable logs for lumber and still had top left. That tree scaled 1018' of boards. Have an opening on the backside for it to fall, of course it has a slight lean and limbs the other way. Sure wish Scotty Overkill was close by, he could climb it and see the view in the next county. Might cut it and make some boards for more wood racks...it's in the middle of the picture towards the back.
So when do you plan on taking Goliath down? I am like you. I try to constantly go out through my woods and keep things cleaned up as best as I can. But if this is guy is standing-dead, then I might get on it sooner then latter. Myself, I often paint White Pine so blue stain does not bother me, and if the worms have got into it, being painted, if an arrant bore hole is in a board I can fill it with wood putty and paint it and still use the wood, so I get a lot of lumber from logs commercial mills might reject.
I think pine borers got this one. Maybe I can take it down soon. Might have to jack it to go where I want it...maybe my wife will take pictures or videos of the endeavor...
