Any opinions ? Looking at the 32 ton horizontal. Will more than likely get it with the table and 4 way. Have a fab shop and can fix/modify any weaknesses , just cant see spending phat coin on a Timberwolf.
The basic machine is solid, but from what I've heard, NStars accessories are pretty flimsy. You would be better off building the table yourself.
Not sure if you saw this.... http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/northstar-splitter-first-use.3538/
My uncle has an older 28 ton that's he's had for years. It hasn't given him any trouble, but I'm not sure if the newer ones are still as good. Seems like you have to be real careful anymore because what used to be good mine not be now.
If you're still in the research stage, give American CLS splitters a look . I've got a 25 HH which is roughly equivalent to the TW2Hd . While it's not as heavily built as th HD ,it's pretty robust . That, and it's not nearly as expensive by the time you add the lift ,table ,4 way .... Yadda ,yadda. . www.americancls.com. .
I liked the American splitters also. I would first decide on the design, and size you want and then compare the few components that comprise what a splitter is made from and then shop price. Maybe find a used one? I got a good discount on mine. I will say the NS 32 is a bit overkill for the average user. NS 32 ton - Honda GX270 - 8.5 HP Barnes 16GPM 2 stage pump Full length 8" I beam (not welded) Fixed 12" wedge 5" cylinder 3/4 inch HP hoses 18 gallon Hydraulic tank 12" wheels 785 pounds
I checked into the American splitters Same basic model but 25 ton is $100 more. They do have longer cylinder options which I would take advantage of. They are only a couple of hours away and my uncles freight company goes there once a week so I could save on the freight which is $500. I've got time so I'll really kick this around.
