Agreed. Definitely good advice. Slow is fast and fast is slow in this case. I never screw up more than when I’m trying to rush.

That always worked well for me backing up the 6 horse trailer on the old Blazer I towed our llamas. Seriously.
Long story short, I had to back the truck and trailer down the ramp twice on the lake we live on. First time was only us on the lake, I got it there, the trailer was not straight on with the ramp but we got it loaded. Next time a few boaters out at the time. Yep. One with several people on board pulled up and watched and pointed an laughed. A fisherman on the shore near the dock came to help, I handed over the keys to him, I was grateful.
    Vote for best advice.

That said, I was still better than Petero_O.

I think licensing trailer drivers makes sense, but the shorter trailers are harder to back because they're so twitchy. A 30' twin axle gooseneck is a piece of cake to back compared to a log splitter.

So true! Between my mirrors being small stockers an my new splitter is so short I can’t see the darn thing until it jack knifes. I’d much rather back up my trailers.

I've towed a tractor and double pup trailers before, but never attempted to back them up. I haven't done it in 11 years, but I used to be able to back up with two pivot points (towing a tractor trailer) I struggled with it for years until one day it just clicked and then I could do it with slight ease.

No one is as bad at backing up a trailer then me.

Oh I grew up in the woods logging, and I started out using a tractor and trailer to get wood out in 4 foot lengths, so I learned quickly how to stuff a trailer between two trees and a rock...but if I try to use mirrors where everything is backwards...forget it. I SUCK!

But weld with mirrors, I did that at the shipyard a lot, enough so on my crew I was usually the go-to-guy for mirror welding. Weird...

    Funny story about mirror welding...

Early in my shipbuilding career I had a choice, take a layoff or be a laborer for a month, so I chose to be a laborer. One day we were in the bilge sucking up paint chips with shop vacs and the next day we were painting one of the engine rooms. But the guys I was with were slopping it on everywhere so I thought, "LodgedTree, if you want to paint instead of sucking up paint chips in a bilge, do a good job painting, and you'll paint", and that was what happened.

BUT in order to get on top of the pipes in the engine room, I had to use a mirror so I could dab the missed spots with paint.

When I went back to welding suddenly I could mirror weld. I would start out being backwards, then something in my mind would switch, and I could just move my hands opposite from what I wanted too.

Try mirror welding; it is not easy, but after getting good at it, it saves a lot of positing of your body. No need t crawl under that trailer frame to weld it, just position a mirror and weld while seated comfortably.

Well that bloke has no right to drive a semi if he or she can’t back it in there. He or she hit both trailers and the dock, several times. I’m tipping that after the boss saw that video or the damage to the pan he/she would have been fired!
