Not too early where Well Seasoned is at. Pretty much right on scheduele, 10 months of winter, and 2 months of damm poor snowmobiling.
Got to 50F here today with mixed sun & clouds, real decent day. Just tossed a few Pine pieces in the boiler. Stat set at 72 & it's 72. Getting lazy only loading once a day & setting a thermostat. No damper or air control, not too hot or too cold & no kindling. I kinda like this.
I don't burn yellow poplar often or burn the stove when outside temps are over 40 but it's a damp cool so the poplar burn is perfect. I have dead poplar all over that I leave but 1 tree fell in an area I mow so I bucked and split it. I brought it up and put it in the wood rack yesterday and started it last night and its keeping the room warm without being hot.
Slept in this morning but will go hunting tonight. Fire went out in the stove but we probably won't relight it until late tonight or maybe even tomorrow as it is not supposed to get very low tonight, but rain. So may have to have fire to take the dampness off. Present inside temperature is 77.
Saw 40°F for a high today, so won't light the oakleaf until later this evening to fight off the 22°F tonight. Winter storm approaching for tomorrow, but only wet chit with a maybe up to 6"- well see. The coast will see nor'Easter winds & rain.
We're having some of that tweener weather...too warm for a fire....too cold for no fire. That thermostat on the wall sure is nice this time of year.
Ya kinda rare to have snow here during that time but it has happened best I could remember one year in December during muzzleloader season got 9 inches and took a nice mature Doe than but good thing up there I can drive my truck or take tractor where I need to go
40* for a low....41* right now...rainin,wind blowin. Got the stove goin this mornin with some ginko..then 2 splits of hickory for coals....gonna burn some cherry the rest of today...
43 and damp here. We too are into that stage where it is too hot with a fire and too cool to not have one. Well, actually we light a fire then let it die out. Wait until we start getting a bit chilled then light another small one. 77 in the house.
