That's great news that you and your daughter have found a couple of perceptive and and innovative doctors to treat both your and her seizures. Living in beautiful Maine must be enough of a draw to attract talented medical people, but like anywhere you find a good doctor by trial and error. I'm glad you can sleep, and your daughter is getting properly treated. I wish you a very cozy winter in your tiny house! And maybe a pair of warm slippers.

Surprisingly here, we get a lot of good Doctor's. For instance my wife's cardiologist was George Bush Sr's cardiologist. Why? Because they can live here, float their yachts in the harbor, be 10 minutes away from the hospital and not be worried about being sued because Mainer's are not prone to doing that.

But we also lose some good Dr's too, and when several good ones left at once, I asked why the exodus the answer was surprising. Mainer's are VERY stubborn, so they recommend changes and yet we do not do them, so it becomes very frustrating for them.

My take on it is different. How can I go to my new Dr with a problem (extreme fatigue) and not at least give her suggestion a chance; that would not be right of me. I dislike taking pills and prefer natural remedies honestly though you would probably never guess that about me, but I cannot exactly have her close one of her toolboxes and say out of stubbornness...in effect..."I know you went to school for 8 years, but I know more than you." So far...it has worked well. I sleep through the night and feel more rested with the medicine I am getting.

...seizures...so much fun...I have Epilepsy...like many things that can be wrong with the human body....it really sucks...I wish I didn't have it, but, it hasn't killed me yet and I am able to work full time...the fatigue is getting worse with age...at least, I feel more safe than I used to thanks to medication...really wish I didn't need the medication, but I am thankful for it.

I know you are on top of things...Good work.

Might be a cold air flow down the stairs from the second floor- used to be there was always at least one door on the stairs to second floor - course if this a real older place there some big passive heat registers in the second story floor which make the comment mute.

Interesting: I never thought of that scenario.

I am pretty dumb, but one thing I did do on this renovation was reframe around the stairs. I did that in case I ever wanted to put down a trap door and isolate the first and second floors. I also left in place the door frame (but the old door is missing) that was in place at the top of the stairs.

We discussed renovating the stairwell so that instead of being straight up it would be sloped, but that is more of a modern look then a 1900 farm house. This place is simple, but a sloped ceiling would help send the heat into the rooms instead of trapping the heat in the upper part of the stairwell (I think).

Our tenant told us yesterday that they have changed their minds and do not want to rent our house.

That was no surprise honestly, and we are in no way upset. They were 20-somethings and as our realtor told us, that house was NOT a starter house. The tenants wee renting a crappy old trailer, and while it is normal to want a bigger house, they did not realize all the costs that come with a bigger house either. (Heat, electricity, insurance, etc) so they opted out. I would rather have them decline now, then move out in the middle of winter.

This is good for me and Katie as we were under the gun to clean it up fast, but now we can take our time and really put some finishing touches on the place. We are just unsue what to do with it; try to move another renter into it, or just start the conversion into a Day Care Center now. The way it is arranged, it would make a perfect one.

Before converting to day care get all the Takemint bullroar out of the first. licenses approvals the list goes on. Maybe it is simpler by you but around here it is a pretty highly regulated affair as far as a commercial venture is involved. There is also a cut off point of x number of children before needing the gov approvals.

    Yes we looked into that.

Being foster parents and having our home already government approved helps. I am in no way saying its not a lot of hoops to jump through; it is because of all the background checks, home inspections, and all of that, but we have been through it before.

Well the lack of renters pressuring us to get into our old house allowed me to work on the Tiny House. I have wanted to get the generator shed done for a long time now, and was finally able too yesterday. I thought I would be done by noon, but it took me ALL DAY...so much for having my energy back!

It came out good though, and is well built. The base is made of White Cedar to prevent rot, the framing all doubled up for super-strength due to the vibration it will take. I even added a drain hole for changing out the gearbox oil. I got the generator bolted down tight with room to crawl in and work on wiring and whatnot. Then I added clapboard trim to match the house, and finally fitted the roof with steel roofing I had. In writing it all out it would not seem that would take me all day, but it did.

I am not sure how much wind driven snow will get packed inside the building, but rain will stay off it anyway. Either way this old house will not know what to do; it has never had a 20 KW generator at the ready, direct wired into the house should the power go out. The old Kubota will stir up some electrons and make them excited...electrongasms maybe...as soon as I get the clutch replaced on my Kubota. Now that thing looks pitiful as its loader is off, it is split in half, it's guts everywhere awaiting the Kubota Dealer to tell me the clutch is in. Not bad though, its got 2700 hours of hard labor on the old clutch before it gave up the ghost.
