I want to thank everyone for the advise on using USPS. Also thank you huskihl for taking the saw in to fit the new top-end to it. Also, thank you for catching the bearing/seal issues and correcting them. Glad I listened to everyone and didn't just throw a new piston/cylinder on it as I doubt it would have run long. I was running 40:1 mix but will be changing to 32:1 from here on. I will be updating once I get the saw back and put back together so I can try it out. FHC ROCKS!
Its all boxed up ready to head back. I thought I could get it back in the mail yesterday until I found this No biggie. All new bearings, gaskets, and seals and it'll be good for a long while
I still can't believe Kevin did this for a total stranger. Can't wait to sink the 32" bar in some big white oak at my friend's place.
Hey Kevin, when I change to 32:1 will I need to re-tune all the saws, or just listen. Also, on the 660 how was the carbon/oil in it? In other words did it seem to have enough oil in the case? I already told you what oil I was using at 40:1 and not looking to start an oil war here, just curious as this was a used saw when I purchased it and want to keep all my equipment in the best possible condition. Thanks again.
I dunno, an oil thread might be fun...been kinda slow around here lately... I like 32:1...I run that in all my 2 smokes, but I'm running a quality dino oil though too...not synthetic
I would just listen to how they sound. I think your 365 won’t miss a beat with that mix. I run 36:1 I all my saws stock or modified. Big and small...lot easier than having 2 different ratios.
Everything was pretty dry. Probably due to the air leak caused by the bad bearings taking out the seals. You'll need to listen to each saw once warmed up for that 4 stroking sound out of the cut, and cleaning up in the cut. Going from 50:1 to 32:1 will actually lean out the air/fuel ratio a slight amount due to there being less fuel in the mix; similar to going from cutting in summer to cutting in winter. If you're in doubt, post a vid of the saw making a couple cuts along with a couple short wide open revs and we'll steer you in the right direction
Just thought I would do a follow-up on this. Saw is together, but not started yet. Between work and the heat taking it out of me, just have not taken the time to run it. Was thinking of testing tomorrow, but found out I need to work a good part of the day getting ready for a 16+ hour day Monday cabling a new Dollar General north of Des Moines. Oh well, I will get it done and try to learn how to post a video. Thanks again Kevin.
Not really. Been busy with work and what little tree work done has been with either my 365sp or new to me 562xp. I will try to make a point to fire it up this next weekend and get a couple of cuts with it. I guess I'm a little gun shy after the melt-down, sorry huskihl
