Got it done quick, when I looked at my phone it was 7:03. 9.5 inch beard. Hens everywhere, all but one were still in the trees. She was yelping every now and then, I got aggressive and started yelping over top of her when she started up and then started about a half dozen long yelp series and the two toms started to move and then saw my decoy and committed. 15-20 hens must have flown out when I shot.
They are strutting everywhere now up this way. Co-worker is getting ready to get out soon. They are in the roads all the time around here.
I have two tags left. I am about to pop the breasts in brine for a few hours. Just picked some watercress out of the creek. I really enjoy meals that came from the land.
Yeah, now I can have fun trying to call one in for a friend. Or chase one of the smart jumbo birds on the farm.
Season opens Wednesday here. I won't be able to make it out until Saturday though. Last year was miserable...didn't hear a single gobble...its like all the birds vanished....everyone I talked to said it was tough hunting...the birds that were killed came in quiet. It was terrible cold rainy weather so I'm hoping that was it. Hoping for better luck this year.
That is fantastic. It is great you are passing the sport on to your children. It looks like they were having a great time. Congrats.
