Now that we have a couple dozen fleeces from our Icelandic sheep, it's time to start processing the wool into felt, roving and yarn. After "skirting" (cleaning out the dirt and crummy fibets, etc.), apparently the next step is to "pick" the wool (tease out the mats). So, I just so happened to have some leftover curly walnut from a cabinet I built years ago. Here's what the first coat of boilec linseed oil looks like.
Come to look at this now with the finish and this woul have make excellent gun stocks if it would have been sawn into blanks originally.
Beautiful wood. It looks like additional coats of the boiled linseed oil makes the finish shinier. Am I getting that right? I prefer a satin finish so I'm wondering if you can get that with the BLO.
It looks awesome but I don't know how you would use it. When it is finished, would you post a picture of it in use?
