My wife and I bought a farmhouse 2 years ago that we renovated. We weren't able to get a wood stove installed last year, but it was always our goal to install one in our home. I spent a year researching stoves and fell in love with the Woodstock Soapstone brand of stoves. Unfortunately, these were well beyond our ability to afford at the time. I tried to convince my wife that we could just buy it on credit and make payments because I didn't want to spend money on something cheap, just to buy a new, nice one when we could afford it.

My wife, the sensible one, told me that was a horrible idea and that we would just wait out the winter and try to find a decent used one to hold us over until we could get a nice one. I scoured Craigslist and even if I found a Woodstock stove (They were few and far between...people just don't sell their Woodstock stoves!) it was still at least $1oo0 or more, and weren't always in very good shape.

I scoured Craigslist all summer, looking for something that would give us what we wanted - Good burn times, a glass viewing area, and the right size. Imagine my shock when a few weeks ago, I found a Woodstock stove, and they were only asking 500 OBO and it looked great! The seller had bought the home and had it inspected and were told not to use it because it wasn't properly installed and had some rust in the catalytic chamber so she was just going to sell it. I offered her 300 (Because hey...she said OBO) and she took it! I called Woodstock, told them the situation and asked what issues I should be looking for. They told me to send them pictures of particular areas of the stove and they would look at it and let me know. I did that, and they called back within 15min of me emailing them the pics and told me it looked great. Barely used, everything from the pictures looked perfect (Can't tell you how impressed I was by the customer service.)

I was SO excited. Sent the sell half the payment and went and picked it up a couple of days later. So ready to be heating my home with this beautiful stove.

Happy to be joining the wood stove club. Can't wait for many warm winter months!

We are getting ready to install the chimney liner soon. The stove will sit about 8 inches farther back into the hearth. I didn't want to move it into position until we got the flue installed - This thing was HEAVY

Thank you. I've been lurking around here off and on for a while (This site was part of my research into these stoves) but finally had a reason to actually start contributing!

    haha. Thank you!

I've tried. I guess my luck only applies to wood burning :/

She balances me out for sure. A good ying to my yang. I am not a patient man :p
