Got up at 3 am this morning, and went out to get the paper. Walked past the car's and thought, hmmmmmmm looks like FROST! Sure enough the temp's dropped down enough to frost pretty good here in the PNW. Anyway here in the valley it did. So, Sherman did his thing and was ready to head back inside. I've been waiting for this weather for a while, we are way behind on rain. Well no rain in the near future, but, looking better for next week. So, just before i / we, went outside i threw a little wood and some pitch in the stove and lit it off. Opened the back damper just a touch and headed outside. Sky was clear as a bell and it was dead quiet out, not even a log truck running through town at that time. BEAUTIFUL early dark, morning, Thank you GOD for the neat things you do for us! It was cool, ha,ha,lots of frost on the car and pickup. The flowers are toast, as are the last of the tomatoes. We'll sure miss the tomatoes, and even the flowers. Supposed to sunshine, and be clear for the rest of the week. Now, i or we get to enjoy the fruits of my labor's by burning up some of this great wood i've worked so hard to get. I've got a good mix of fir, some alder, maple, and oak. Plus the ash i got at the grand daughters last week, it wont be ready for this year, but, that's fine. The living room was dark, the fire going, great, so i took a couch pillow, laid down on the floor and Sherman joined me in front of the stove. I enjoy doing that, laying there watching the fire burn through the glass door, listening to the fire drawing air through the back, and the quiet of the early morning. Sherman of course comes by for a rub down, and eventually he'll fall asleep until i get up. lol. My wife thinks i'm nuts to lay there, but, hay, no one can see me, and its really relaxing, no tv, no lights on, just the fire dancing in the firebox, me and the dog. Had a bowl of instant peach oatmeal ,what a way to start off the day. Work, ha,nope, i'm retired, REALLY enjoying life now.
Great story B.Brown . Sounds a lot like my mornings, except I don't get on the floor unless I have to.....too difficult to get back up. I think we've had one or maybe two frosts so far, with MANY more to come. Enjoy your "free time".
Still waiting for a frost here in central PA...It's been ridiculously warm and humid all fall, everything is still green, and the leaves are falling off the trees with no color at all.....
"no tv, no lights on, just the fire dancing in the firebox, me and the dog" ... yep, nothin quite like it B.Brown ...
Awesome dissertation of your morning. Love the peace of the early morning. Great time to reflect on life and all things Godly.
It takes 3 things to get on the floor and getting back up, Practice, Practice, Practice!! lol. My wife say's i'm ''lucky'' to be able to do that, i can sleep almost standing up if i'm tired enough, or, in cramped spaces, even on rough ground. And at the same time, if i wake up , i'm wide awake instantly.
This sounds like a great morning to be alive!!! As for the wife thinking you are nuts, methinks most on this forum think you have the world by the tail! Like papadave I too do not get down if I don't absolutely have to because it is so difficult to get back up. After 3 hip surgeries and the bad back, it can really be a difficult thing to do.
Well, so what did I do this afternoon? Got in the attic to do a bit better job sealing up the duct work. 3rd time in the last 4 days (had to take off yesterday). Yep, nuts.
Uhhhh yeeeeaaaah. It was 50 at my house when I left for work this morning. In fact PG&E shut off the power to our entire county (yes I said county) last night at 9PM due to high winds and fire danger. Power is still not on at my house.
