White pine in the new IS. Got a nice low cat burn for about six hours this afternoon on four fat but short white pine splits and a few small kindling slats. Can't believe how much heat this thing throws with minimal wood - and how controllable it is with dry pine. I've learned to push cold air from the kitchen toward the dining room where the stove is with a small table fan. Next will be figuring out how to get it upstairs to the bedrooms. I think another small fan will be in order - I would like to stay away from running the forced air fan if we can.

We had 30* before sunrise this AM. The first frost (minor) for us. The last tomato plant left in the garden looks like it wasn't bothered.

Looks like a return of almost normal weather for a bit. Currently dealing with 9 C or 48 F and no fire. And that's okay. I don't even think it dropped below freezing last night.

I've been gone for a while so missed a lot of posts so will just start again here.

The house was at 55 when we got home yesterday afternoon and about the first thing I did was light a fire in the stove. The temperature came up nicely and soon we were comfortable again. The temperature was 80 when we went to bed and I did not put more wood on the fire so had to restart it this morning. Wife is doing laundry after the trip and is drying the clothes in the stove room. Stove still going but I'm about to put more wood on the fire now.

45 for our high today and I see 44 expected for the high Wednesday with 50 or 52 tomorrow. So, this is one of the tasks I did today:

    101_0302.JPG

That should get us through a week or so.

Something else I was doing today was to move things into the new barn. Here I put the backhoe on the tractor and moved it into the barn. It will keep better in there for sure.

Had snow and temps dropped into the upper tens overnight on Fri/Sat. Brrrrrrrrrr! The NC 13 earned it's keep once again!

Had more snow this morning but temps hovered near freezing mark.

Man, the lake water sure is cold!

You need a reprieve before it really sets in so enjoy it! Looks like it will be nice here for awhile as well. We had a frost this morning but it did get up to 12c/53f before it started dipping again. We are 3c/37f right now and there is some fir in the stove although Im wondering why since my 2600 sq ft house is 24c/75f at the moment. Maybe time for some shorts.

You know what I find real neat about the fall? Swiss Chard, Kale, Carrots are real resistant to cold temps. We have had regular if not every day temps dropping well before freezing and these crops seem to be able to put on their big boy pants and not turn to mush.

32 degrees Fahrenheit. Bubbling goo burning. :emb: It’s time to get the boiler room cleaned and prepare the boiler for its first firing. Something is going on with the fan motor so I have a new one in a box ready to be put on. Then see if I can fix the old one and keep it for a spare.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do in this thread!

Lots of wind damage and over 63k power outages this morning after a very breezy night. I put a load in last night at 8 and it’s still 80 in the stove room so I think we’re good for awhile
