First fire of the year today. My wood is quite sluggish. This is 3yr c/s/s yellow birch, beech, and maple. 3 rows deep on a pallet and not at all what I would call big splits. Some is hissing and pizzing for a couple minutes. Fire does get up to temp but is taking a tad longer than I'm used too. Everyone's been there but I'm very dissapointed.
Its only rained here once. Started in June...........................ended after 40 days and 40 nights.
Yes lots of rain here too. I'm finding that on any splits that got a little wet, to stack them by the stove and they dry out to make them burn well. I could try my better stuff that's been under cover but I don't need to chooch us out of the house more than the pine and black walnut, and soon to be basswood will do.
Yes this is my problem as well. Covered holds in moisture but if I didn’t cover I’d be totally screwed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I'm wishing I had brought some pine into the house a week ago. For the first fire. Even in the Winter I like to be burning the stash I brought in yesterday. I just don't have room inside to make that possible all the time.
Last load I brought in the house obviously has more moisture in it than I thought. Sluggish is an apt description. Had made a few small fires with the previous loads and they burned fine. Today, not so good. On the bright side it does have more time to dry up.
im talking covered in a hoop house with plenty o ventilation ........this is by far the worst summer...
Me too brothers. Its gonna suck this Fall. Let's all be extra conciencious about keeping or stax clean.
This is my solution, the wood “on deck” gets a sauna before headed in the beast. For anybody wondering I measured a 3 foot clearance to the rack.
