Kitchen cabinets in the basement. they are 2 inches down from the ceiling so the crown will blend right in, they are also set on 1/2" pressure treated so no moisture can wick up into the wood cabinet. The cabinets are set on strips so there is an air gap between the cabinets and floor. The ceiling is going to be white vinyl soffit so any thing above will be easily accessible. Also the appliances are being refinished in a turquoise. Working on that some today.

this is how I finish basement windows, I install a vinyl replacement window in front of the basement window so you get natural light in and when you look at it your brain thinks it is on the main floor instead of the basement. After it was all trimmed in you do not think you are in a basement.

No, in stock Diamond brand from Lowes. Anymore by the time I buy materials I can buy custom cabinets...............these in stock I can get cheaper than running my tools for the day.

Never seen that window idea before. Very cool! I’ll be looking forward to the soffit ceiling pics. We just pulled down our drop ceiling in the finished part of our basement because it had been such a crappy install by the previous owners (it only took us 15 years). We were going to just paint the joists and all white. But that soffit idea sounds interesting.

Love the window idea, will have to remember that one. Turquoise appliances? Can't wait to see it finished.

I like that sofit idea. I may want to cover my basement ceiling at some point in time, and have accessibility, so know it won't be with sheetrock. Definitely need pics when you do it!

I think turquois appliances will look neat!

with the soffit everything remains accessible and you lose zero head room, attach directly to floor joists. Drop ceiling IIRC is 3 inch minimum.

here is Lucy's new door to her room. We want her to stay home but not in a crate and a baby gate just does not work for me so I built a new dutch door with spindles on the bottom. We shall give it a try this weekend and see how she does. The right side is taller to pick up the hinge I did not want to move the hinge in the frame and the aluminum spindles I had were this length so I made it work.

I like that idea! We are thinking about the "pet logistics" in our new house...it gets complicated with 5 hounds and 2 cats. We burn in the basement and I'd like to confine the hounds to the basement out of a crate during the day and the cats need acces to the basement all the time for the litter.
