Is anybody here BSA chainsaw certified, and if so what does it consist of? Is it just your ordinary watch a video then take a test, or is it more involved? The reason is the local council has a monthly work day at the camp and the main objective this month is to split wood for the cabins this winter. And they said if anybody is chainsaw certified, that's a plus. Can't really find much online about it, was going to ask more about it after roundtable last night, but as usual they were just swamped with people with other questions and I just wanted to go home and go to bed.
I think this might be what you're looking for: https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/safety-moments/chain-saws/
National camp standards require that chain saw operators be at least 18 years old and meet one of the following requirements: Be a professional forester. Be a certified arborist. Have received training in chain saw techniques from a Ranger section of National Camping School. Have written documentation of having other training in these techniques that is recognized by the state or federal government. Have successfully completed BSA Chain Saw Safety Training course, No. 20-136. (Successful completion of this training program achieves this goal.) Just the overview of the requirements.
Yeah, I found that info easy enough. But that says nothing about getting certified and providing proof to the council. For example with youth protection training every year I log in with my username and password on the national website, watch the videos, and have to pass an online test. Very simple and that qualifies me to be a leader. Surely there has to be some sort of test to pass or other verification or else any Joe Blow can say yeah sure , I'm trained. I know there's no way that would fly with our council.
Chainsaw Safety Training | 360training.com This should work. OSHA is federal. You may want to dig a little deeper into the claims though. It’s advertised as an OSHA chainsaw safety course. Problem is I can’t fin anyone else performing the test. A bit of a red flag.
Having 10 fingers and 10 toes is sufficient. I'm an Eagle Scout, I can make jokes about the BSA. Lol.
