My neighbor stopped in the other night for " beer meeting" and I said to him we are going to go right from summer to winter. 80s in the cast for next week!!!!! This is nuts ! We haven't even had a frost yet. Typical first frost is early Sept and first snow Oct.
Calgary, Alberta got hit with 12 inches of wet west coast type snow on Oct. 2. Caught them a bit off guard. Normally their snow is dry and light and doesn't show for a month yet.
Oh boy, i'd love to see some of that here in the PNW, we need, both rain and snow, its starting to rain every now and then. But, not even close to what we need.
It is not that uncommon in northern MI. I hear a lot of comments that people aren't ready but I also know many folks who would welcome it. I would too, so long as it is not too much so as to do lots of damage. I do remember one year when we got hit with some really heavy stuff in October. I tried to go deer hunting the next day and could barely get around in the woods. Could not see very far either. I gave up and went to the house.
It's not unheard of here either, remember many times kids trick or treating wearing snowsuits. Just watching the news right now and just south of us a bit 6+ inches predicted in the next 24 hours . Im in the border zone of only 3 inches.
Normal here, funny when southerners come up.. No costumes go over coats and boots!! Hot coffee and cocoa for parents!
Last 20 or so years first snow around Thanks Giving. I sure can remember being buried in late Oct though. At times the weather can turn incredibly quickly around WI. Mid 70's A balmy 65 deg Sat. morning out with pups for a little bird hunting. We were apx 3 miles out from the car. In less than 2 hours Mother Natures entire inventory was dumped on us. temp went from 65 to 0 with 30/40 mph winds, rain, sleet, snow . with wind chill it was bad news one pup was only 6 months old had to carry him inside may jacket I was totally soaked through clothes freezing up took 2 hours just to get to car and at that point i was starting to have problems from hypothermia- 45 min drive that took some 3 hours so cold with wind that car never warmed up real lucky that I did make it home.
