People drive by your house, flag you down while mowing your yard, and offer you wood!

It’s not the first time it’s happened, but it happened this afternoon so I thought I would share. An older couple stopped by who live about a half mile away and who I’ve never met. Apparently they live a few streets away from my house. At first I thought they needed directions, but the husband opened with “Is that all your wood?” So I got curious and answered “Yes”. He then said “Would you like some more? We just had a maple tree taken down and you are welcome to it.”

I’m currently busting at the seams as far as wood storage goes right now. I was concerned about what I might be getting myself into, but then he showed me a picture. Everything is already cut to length, it’s easily accessible, and all I would have to do is toss it on the trailer and split it when I got home. How could I pass that up?

    Who needs CL?

I'll be mowing my lawn next week. You know I'll have my head up looking for stopping cars.

Here’s your pics! I got over there this afternoon. It’s probably about 1/3 of a cord. Nice sized pieces to deal with and already cut to length.

Not sure what kind of maple it is. It’s got kind of a darker bark.

Leaf indicates a softer red type maple. Harder sugar maples cuts in 5 points of leaf are deeper..

Nothing wrong with that red maple. I love it. I like to split it real big and give it 3 years. I have some real nice stuff for next year that will be a little over 3 years. Mill cutoffs that I made perfect squares out of and left big.
