I need to replace my pull rope, but obviously don't want to get ripped off at the dealer. Is this a specific part for this saw or will any Stihl pull rope fit? How about non Stihl?
LOL on your own spools. I do that too but every now and then I like to get an Elasto-start from my Stihl dealer.
You just need a size that is close and similar. Do you get the whole assembly? I think you can get an entire Elasto-Start assembly for around $15? IIRC? I think that what I paid for my last one. I will be buying another for my 036 when it returns home from its trek to Tenn.
Ya my dealer has them hanging on the wall behind the counter. Its the rope with the handle attached. I just tie a knot and wind it up. I put one on that 023L. I figured it deserved one for all the skid cutting it does.
Grizz, if you don't have the elastostart handle already, they do make a difference in smoothing out the compression bumps. If you can get one reasonable, that's the route I'd go. If your looking to get 'er done on the cheap, the True Blue rope like Guido posted is excellent stuff for replacements. BTW: You can re-rope an elastostart handle.
I don't think I have an elastostart handle. My primary reason for this that is that I have no idea what one is.
Its just the newer stihl handle. It has a rubber insert in it. Like said it cishions the jerky ness to the pull.
Ok, I doubt it then. Going to open it up tonight and trace down the loose connection on the kill switch, that will be my first adventure of that type with it.
The circuit goes through the spring that pops into detents in the switch shaft as you move the switch into different positions. That spring can get deformed and pop out of place so that it doesn't consistently make contact with the ferrule on the black wire.
I was getting at what jon said. If you pull the cover and watch it in motion you will understand what happens with it and how itgrounds out to kill the circuit.
