Been reading about other people are starting fires and moving wood around and into sheds. Well I had a small fire a couple of nights ago. 3 or 4 cherry splits night. Boy did it smell good. In the background of the first pic you can see my racks of cherry, about 3 cord. I moved a couple of cherry pallets and stacked the wood onto my wheeled carts. Tractor moved them to the patio one at a time If I had the 48" forks I could have picked up 2 racks at a time but my forks are 42". Got everything covered and cleaned up. Now just waiting for the temp to drop.
I hear ye, apple is also good smello. Like cherry its a joy to burn it if its a cold night with little wind - letting the neighbours know what good firewood smells like... btw i really like your porch.
Funny you said that, my neighbor came over and told me they smelled the cherry. They enjoyed it too, just not the warmth! Smell reminds me of my Great Uncle Charlie who smoked a pipe with cherry tobacco! Yum

Oh yeah, that's a lot of cherry. I bet a few neighbors can smell that wall. I hope most of them like it.
I modified them. You know the racks thes have flowers on at all the stores. They are around 6' tall. The BJs by me was tossing some. I cut the uprights down, used a shelf to make a rigid top. The tan plastic used as a roof was from a 7-11 remodel. They tossed 8 sheets in the trash. It's 1/8" thick and flexible at all temps. The wheels are a real bonus. I thought I could tow them with my golf cart but loaded they are too heavy I have a thread about when I made them link is in signature below
I know those flower racks well. I used to work in the garden dept. at HD. They are very rugged, wheeled, and if you kept just the bottom and top shelf, are perfect for firewood storage on a flat surface. I never had an opportunity to score any, they always made the round trip back to the grower, but there were about a million of them.
Yeah, I thought those belonged to the grower. But I never saw any sophisticated system for keeping track of them.
Midwinter , billb3 Yes those are the carts I was talking about. The ones I got were all damaged in some way. Had to use a sledge and other tools to straighten metal replace bottom, swap wheels etc some did not have shelves or uprights. Cut up one and welded bottom to make it shorter and use it as a generator cart. I don't know why but the BJs near me throws out all kinds of stuff. most damaged in some way. When I was asking the security guy about removing some pallet racks he said yes and asked if I wanted one of the pallet jacks they use to move pallets in store. That was damaged too. I declined but wonder about how they damage so much stuff. Now when I go there I automatically drive around back by dumpsters, you never know what will be there. Pic below is typical and the other is just some of the pallet racking I got there. I didn't take the cart full of wheels but did get 10 or so.
