I finally got my AS installed and set the first fire. It is going to be a learning curve on this stove.
Enjoy that view while you can! You wont see much of it once youre burning 24-7. The learning curve wasnt too bad, though after my first winter, I suspect I'll be learning it all over.again.
I won't see much on 24/7. I am realizing that. As soon as I chock the air down no flames but still heat. An ash pan question. They provide a lid for the ash pan. Is the lid off during a burn? If so, did they provide storage for the pan lid?
The lid is left off for the burn; the grate above is MUCH too hot for that thin piece of sheet metal and would warp into next week..... You can store it under the stove on the floor, at least that is one place. Usually what I do is to shake the ash pan (so the ashes level themselves), then slide the pan cover on as I slide the ash pan out. That way it keeps the fine, fly- ash from getting into the air as you carry it outside. For whatever it is worth: I always buy an extra ash pan for my wood stoves (or make one) so I always have two. That way instead of the stove burning on a closed ash pan door with ash falling down into the ash pan area, I just put the 'other', empty ash pan in the stove as soon as I take the full one out, close the ash pan door and am done with dealing with ashes at the stove. Also, it allows the full ash pan to sit outside and cool off for hours or days with a lid on it as you do not have to be in a hurry to dump the ashes and return the pan to the stove. If you do leave the stove running for very long without an ash pan in it, the ashes will accumulate in the ash pan tray and eventually you will not be able to put an ash pan into the stove without cleaning the pan area, and that will make a serious mess. Very nice! I think you’ll catch onto it quickly. They’re not complicated, just a little finicky at times depending mostly on the weather lol. Long as you have a good draft you’re all set. Assuming all the safety stuff of course. Setbacks, chimney, etc.
Fyi, after the first two ash pan dumps, I never used that cover again. More hassle than it's worth for me
You will love it. I have just installed ours recently. Been running 24/7 for 10 days now. I won't use the ash pan for the next 8 months, but it is snowing right now, so my glass is clean right now.
