I was at an gun auction about three weeks ago. Bought a Friends of NRA raffle ticket. Called couple weeks later and was told I won a Kimber Hunter in .308 Picked it up and have been coveting it ever since. Super smooth action. Good thing is Indiana allows rifles for deer now. Bummer is I bought a Savage left hand .308 last year. This is a swwet weapon. May get it set up too, .amd hunt with what my mood is.
Very nice indeed! I don't see many Kimbers in gun shops near where I am and I only known what I have read after looking them up. I see their ads in Boone and Crockett's Fair Chase magazine.
Kimber is one fine gun maker, I second getting rid of the Savage and keeping the Kimber. But being left handed and useing a right handed rifle bother you might just sell the Kimber or trade for a pistol. Al
Actually this thing is super light. Has a short throw on the bolt, amd seems to be superior craftsmanship. I carried a Kimber Compact before anyone knew what they were. As good as a Colt Custom for the price of a standard Colt. One of my partners likely had the first one in Indiana. Nam vet who loved the 1911. He was fascinatd by it and told the dealer he would biy it if she could show him how to take it down. Coulnt figure it out. She had to call Kimber, and was instructed to use a paper clip to turn the bushing. I now carry a full size Kimber TLE II. Kimber are great, but I got to try out a .45 Glock, and it put the rounds where I wanted them, plus a 13 round capacity. Going o be hard justifying the .45 and not carry a Glock. No scope wih it, looking at a Vortex. As a lefty, the throw on the bolt is slick enough to easily to the reach over, as ou saw Barry Peeper's character sniper in Saving Private Ryan.
I have a Kimber Montana on layaway . Nice rifle !! Personally I wouldn't sell anything. Especially if the Savage has been a good rifle. Can you legally hunt with an illuminated reticle where you hunt ? What range are your shots usually ? I'm a controlled round feed guy. So I would never turn over a Kimber or crf Ruger , Winchester for a push feed rifle. But I wouldn't just dump a push feed rifle if it came free of charge. But would flip it for a crf rifle
I pack a G20 SF . couldn't imagine going to a 1911 . Had a G21SF that someone talked me out of in a trade that I will be replacing with another one. .
Not sure on the illuminatd retacle. My pasture can give me 200 yards, but I also go into the woods. With the hills, that can limit things to under 100.
Likely shotgun. New York used to be a shotgun only state. Opened to rifles about 8-10 yrs ago I believe. We can use crossbow as well now.
Sounds weird to me but its never late to educated myself. So you would only use slugs for a buck or piggy?! Can you explain the reason behind it? Forbidden overhere but we're allowed silencers now though.
You are probably thinking county by county. Always been centerfire rifle here. The only statewide ban on rifles for NY I'm aware of is rimfire/large game. For some people a common use....A car/truck can suffice though
You are correct, I did not think of the Northern sections where rifle has been allowed for a very long time. Here in the Southern Tier, it only changed relatively recent.
Yes, 1 oz lead or copper slugs in shotgun. I still hunt with shotgun as the area I own/hunt is rather small, so not really enough room for long rifle shots. As to piggy's, not many (if any) feral hogs in these parts. I know that the DEC keeps saying about the Eurasian Boar, but you are not supposed to hunt/kill them, just report them.
Yeah. IDNR says "choot 'em, Lizbeth!" Then report how many you saw, and where, for tracking. We've seen what they're doing for agriculture in the south, and Indiana is still pretty much small towns, factories, and farms. We'll try to put up a little bit better resistance than we did that darn Morgan feller back in the day.
