Was out running an errand today and took a quick trip through th dump to look for treasure. I found some buried treasure under a pile evergreen branches and a couple pallets. Went back with the trailer and dug it out. This is what it netted me. Already split, pretty well seasoned compilation of cherry maple and maybe a few others. Should be at least 1/3 of a cord. Yes sir! It rained quite a bit the last week as well as this whole summer in general, so I’m going to pop one open and take a moisture reading. I’ll let you guys know what I find out. thats great news, any thing thats gets dumped at the tip over here has to stay there they wont let you take it away.

That’s disappointing. Some things, like scrap metal, they don’t let you take. But they leave you alone for the wood. I’m sure it also helps that the same guy has been the only one working there for the 15 years I have been in town. Don’t think he has ever missed a day. He doesn’t drive, so I’ve given him plenty of rides. I bring an occasional cold soda or water for him while he’s working. I’ve even taken him on a scrap metal run with my trailer. The little things pay off. He let me take a washing machine from the scrap metal pile once so I could bring it home and pull out the drum to make a fire pit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I suspect, that at town dumps that take wood, but do not allow you to pick at it, is due to town employees having first (and last) dibs. They'll say liability is the reason, but I'll stand by my opinion.

Nice. Do you feed your stove by taking splits off that rack, through the door, or just open and reach through the window?
Actually, those are both doors. Regular door on the left goes to the mud room, which is where I bring the wood in. The door on the right is the slider into the kitchen. That would be a more direct route, but that door is more cumbersome to open and close. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
