Not doing this one myself, too much risk for me being right under the electrical drop. Finally got a bid to sign today, with a very reasonable labor rate and below-cost pricing on the pipe. We're going to use Duratech, as it's the preferred product of the installer. Although I'm sadly sure the steel is Chinese, I was very happy to see "Made in USA" plastered all over the product info on Northline Express. I've got a roof overhang to deal with on this install, and after consulting with Woodstock and the chimney installer, we're going to use 30s to go around it rather than cutting. If I cut, the roof ends up flush with the siding, not too comforting with the amount of snow and ice we get. Already dealt with ice damming here, no need to create another problem! The overhang is not large enough to penetrate and box out. I'll have about 24 feet vertical run after one 90 at the bottom, so I'm not too worried about drafting well. Sweeping is a concern, but I guess cleaning brushes can be had that are flexible enough to get around the 30s? Sound right? I'll be cleaning bottom up, hopefully not too often once we get rolling, but I'll give it a go at least a few times the first season to see what I get out of it. Better safe than sorry.
Don't know Papi, my overhang was 18 inches.. I took a Sawzall cut it out and went straight up and ice and water the whole thing with the chase.. It should work..
Mine is only about eight inches. To maintain 2 inch clearance, I would have to cut flush with the house or have the chimney sitting almost a foot away from the wall all the way up. Just signed off on a contract with the 30s, so we'll see how it comes out I guess. Very excited to have the end in sight - it's been getting chilly the last few nights. Need to get this beast cooking!
