That is nuts! Makes me glad I live in the middle of nowhere. No city gas lines running to my house. Stay safe up there!
Even though it looks like it's now under control, gas can still be where it shouldn't be, thus the power is cut to all 3 communities. New conference, forthcoming. Gonna be a long night for people involved
It is always in the back of my mind. You occasionally hear of a house exploding, but this randomness and the extent is unprecedented.
Overnight - House by house, gas connections have been shut off. Electricity remains off to three communities. Thousands have been evacuated, with no estimate on when they can return home. Gas fumes need to be cleared. 1 fatality, when a chimney fell onto an suv with an occupant. Priority has been on people's safety, and securing neighborhoods from crime. No update yet on the reason the gas lines were over pressurized
Boston PD sent at least 50 cruisers to Lawrence for beefed up patrols. I was confused for a minute when my neighbors across the street showed up at their cottage at 10pm on a Thursday, but then remembered they live in Andover
