With getting my new insert finally installed labor day weekend, you can say I've been itching to break it in like a kid on xmas morning. But with the past two weeks of heat advisories & highs in the mid to upper 90's this past weekend I finally got the break I was looking for. Sunday morning I woke up to a morning temp of 56, popped the windows open and lit her up. I also popped the trim kit off just to check things out while the fire was lite. All looked good! As recommended I just lit a very small fire, glass and stove got pretty warm to the touch but it was pretty small fire. Oddly I never smelled anything funny like the paint curing or anything? Was the fire not hot enough? Or is it possible that I just might not get that burn off smell?
Probably didn't get 'er hot enough...but some stoves just don't stink as bad as others when the paint is curing. Some leave a blue haze in the room and smell terrible...different paint I suppose. Just FYI, that being a steel stove it doesn't really require the careful break in that some other models do... 1 small, 1 medium, and then 1000000 "let 'er rip" fires should be fine
Hey ReelFaster -- I put in a Drolet HT2000 a couple winters ago and it was fairly stinky when I got it properly warm. I'd suggest you keep sneaking up on it with slightly bigger fires each time and expect that it will smell a bit when the paint really cures.

More fire needed... Expect awful, open the window smells. If your wife is looking at you like you are an idiot for stinking up the house u got it hot enough to cure.
