Saw this Big Gnarly not to far from us. I think it is maple or oak. Someone said they are waiting for someone to offer to take it down the rest of the way for the wood. I am almost afraid to talk to them because of the trouble I could get into if I had a sudden sporting moment come over me! This could be a slightly smaller elephant. bigtree.jpg

Stihl 391 with 24" bar, what are you waiting for? On a serious note though taking it down would be the scary part.

Well it's been steady diet of elephant lately, but I have just about eaten my last bite. Today was cloudy about 74° with a nice breeze, so I cut everything into rounds. I noodled those into 6th with one left as a ran out of mix. The MS441C is a thirsty beast, but the 24" bar made a the difference in getting the back leg of the Oak elephant butchered.

I declined the stump, but the homeowner is happy with the progress I have made.

The homeowner ought to be happy! That lump must have used 5X the gas you would need for a comparable amount of log wood, plus the extra time and expertise to do the job.

That poor pachyderm. Such gore and carnage strewn about.

    Good job!

When you have a big tree like that you do a lot of work once. If you do smaller trees you do a little work but a lot of times. Half a dozen in one hand or six in the other. Pick your poison. In the end it’s all the same... lots of work but worth it.

Actually someone did cut it down. Lots of wood piled all over. I will try to get a picture!

Big Gnarly is gone now. A lot of wood has been taken away and the stump has been ground. Glad I didn't get involved! I must be getting old! bigtree2.jpg
