It turly is a kind of sickness. I check FB/CL everyday for wood.
It has been pretty slim pick'ns lately. A lot of wood for sale. High
priced. Boat loads of cotton wood. No thanks!
Been watching a FB ad for a couple of weeks. We talked about it off and on.
The better half....who is the real hoarder.....cleared out behind the tool shed
and I came up w/the idea of putting a cord+ behind the trailer.

    IMG_8291.JPG

We kept looking at the pictures and decided we could still do it.

    IMG_8295.JPG

Made a date to go get it this am. We arrived on time.
Lady was asking $20 for the pile. She refused to take any money.

YIKES!! It was much bigger than it looked...…
or our hoarder sense made it look much smaller.

    IMG_8297.JPG

So I cut a load that we could barely load and got the hell out of Dodge.

    IMG_8299.JPG

We learned a cruel lesson today......we can no longer handle 16-24" wood.
It is just too heavy. But, we got it home and stacked.

    IMG_8301.JPG

This puts us somewhere into the 6-7 year plan. ....and now that we have the
extra....empty space.....we feel like we are not stocked up. It's kind of a sickness.

I will often split big stuff like that in half so as to not kill myself lifting it.

Nice score! Time for the sledge and wedge. You will ache for a while but the satisfaction from your stacked splits will last a long time after the pain is gone!:fire::thumbs: And you are right. It is a sickness!

    The sledge and wedge.....

….I know. Just never have had to do that.
Usually that only happens after I get it home.
We talked about that coming home.

….we'll keep talking about that. :smoke:

Couple ramps and you'll be rolling those big rounds into the truck without a back ache.. I use my 2x12 ramps for everything from firewood hoarding to unloading the new Ideal Steel that followed me home on Saturday right into the dining room... :)

I think you made a good score on the wood. Even though it was tough you will say to yourself on some cold winter day that it was all worth the effort. Good for you.

Very nice haul, and can't beat the price. Grab it cheap and stack it deep

Wow! Looks like there was almost a log truck load of ponderosa, FREE . Don't be afraid to noodle those rounds, much less work than a heavy splitting maul. Nice score.

Lol! You caught me! It's all undressed now from the move and sitting on a dolly. As soon as she gets dressed I'll get some pics up. Promise. :)

You put an empty wood rack in a hoarders yard and it won't stay empty for long, no matter how much wood they have. How could you possibly walk past an empty wood rack day after day and not get the urge to fill it.

I need an empty rack, for micellaneous wood. It's either buy another 4 two by fours (I already have the brackets), or empty a rack of oak into the basement. Nice to have in case of a blizzard. I'm looking forward to burning, instead of just shuffling it around.

I can’t think of a single thing that’s better to hoard than firewood. Is there even such a thing as too much? Great job justdraftn
