Pine clearing for the new garage build

I wish that I could take it easy but a bunch of guys on here talked me into keeping all the pine our I would lose my hoarders license so the lot is a mess.

I've bought some better supports which work well in my sneakers but don't do much for my cutting boots.

 

Well, my vote is for you to keep your hoarders license. You do us all proud!

Thanks Maina, we sure are glad it's up. It's always nice to check the fluids in a dry and level spot but the most important think is the attached garage has cleared out which makes the wife happy.

 

This morning we loaded up the crew (wife,dog, and woody) and took off to pick some insulation up. We picked up 14 rolls (one roll covers a little over 39 feet or 4 bays) so once we came back I moved the tractor out and started insulating.

I think that I insulated 32 bays with enough left to do another 24. The wife helped me out when we were cutting the insulation for length.

 

It's coming along nicely, after it's insulated are you covering it with sheetrock, or something else?

 

I think we'll go with OSB, we won't do the whole garage with insulation and OSB this year. After we get the OSB up on the back wall, the workbench and some storage areas will be built, the workbench we already have from when we closed our business in 2015.

My heel felt like chit this morning but after a conair foot massage and some heat after that it feels much better, I'll start insulating again after the three days of hotter weather leaves.

 

Are you guys going to heat the garage? Wood or another hear source? The place is looking great!

 

This year we plan on a small portable propane heater, once we get the inside finished then we might do something different. The small propane heater will just be for a small area near the tractor or if I'm working in the back, I'll just need to crack open a few windows.

After being outside for x amount of winters, even inside without heat will be nice.

 

For sure just having the wind cut down is very nice. I bought a small propane topedo heater last year and it works great my uninsulated shop. I think it’s 60,000 BTUs. A bit loud but takes the chill off pretty quick. I don’t use it very often but nice to have when I need it.

 

I just checked our small portable propane heater it's a Mr. Heater and it says a maximum of 18,000 btu's on the back.

What brand of torpedo heater did you get? I think you told me once.

 

It looks like we might have an older model like this with the same btu's, we'll get along with this and get something bigger (if needed ) for next year.

Ours is a Remington. I wanted a Mr heater as they get good reviews but it wasn’t in stock so I got this one.

I bought this one as I was trying to warm up a crawl space to thaw a drain pipe I couldn’t get to in our little guest house. I would use what you have this winter and see if you need anything bigger. I figure working outside in the winter I just want to take the chill off.

I haven’t used it much but it seems to be built well and throws a lot of heat. Doesn’t take long to warm up a cold space. It’s also very compact so easy to store it when not in use.

 

I read one review on the Lowe's site that said it was loud and you would need a heavy duty extension cord because the cord was short, what do you think?

 

Yup it’s loud. The cord is only a foot or so long. Don’t think it uses much power so I don’t think you would need a heavy duty cord. I think all the propane torpedo heaters are loud. Not sure how loud the diesel ones are. This is the only one I have used or even been around.

I have one of each...noise levels are similar...the diesel (kerosene) one might be a bit louder?
