Ok, it’s not pretty. The womenfolk usually keep things neat out there. Been a busy year for them though First pic is the loads I just brought home. Some noodles we got off the side of the road last fall. Other assorted scrounges from the roadside And some wood, some stacked, some not
I bet even my 555 with a 20" bar could take on that hollow section. Walk the saw around the hollow section and cut to length.
You meen one of those where they fill in the void with resin? A girl I know says it looks like a heart. Hmnn,,,,,,,,,
looks like a mostly rotten piece of wood to me. If it was red maple I may have left that to the swamp gods. Some times I keep those, some times I don't.
Watch out for the metal in those oak pieces. You can see the iron stain in the end of the logs. Not sure if it’s already been mentioned.
It’s spalted, which means it’s even more valuable than the highly valuable black walnut tree. LOL. Yes it was supposed to come with all the large branches which were in good shape. Was doing the guy a favor to take ALL the wood. Owner of the tree pulled a fast one on me and kept a lot of the good wood for himself. Most likely giving it away to another friend I hear. There’s still 16 feet of hollow dirt filled log on his lawn. It just may stay there. I don’t anger easily. This guys been a jerk for over 30 years. Just the latest installment.
Three more loads today. OK last one was a little light. Today I found remnants of a barbed wire fence. The tree guys whacked the trees above the visible fencing. Do the iron stains travel upwards in the tree? Makes sense they would but I don’t know.
Good stains? Yeah I see em. Don’t think it was a no trespassing sign that low LOL. I find the reoccurring pattern odd though. Two vivid spots. The barb wire was deep into the trees. Maybe the nails were just more more more something,,,,,, I think most if not all the metal is left behind. Time will tell. I did find where the tree cutter first discovered barbed wire. His chain couldn’t have been too happy.
From what I've seen it's hard to try to guess where the metal is from the stain, but I never knew for sure if I missed a bolt or something which would affect what I've seen. So I say the stain travels up and/or down.
Welded up this contraption this morning. In the dark so don’t expect fancy LOL Now I use the choke chain to lift the nose of the log onto the trailer. Then I use this “shoe” on the butt of the log to hoist the rest onboard. Today’s load was about half an hour faster than normal. Need to sharpen the points a little better. It was too hot to finesse this morning before I left. Might even chop off the middle one,,,,,,,,maybe.
