It’s been very rainy in northern CT this summer. Some of my wood is getting fungus. I have been moving some to a sunnier part of the yard. I was just out moving some and guess what, a thunderstorm is rolling through. I plan on separating all the fungus stuff and burning it this upcoming season. Any thoughts? Fungus is BTU’s too. I don’t discriminate. When the wood is dry, the fungus will die... it all goes in the stove...
I get some on the edges of my wood that I just have covered with tarps.....DEFINETLY..not a good summer for drying! Do you keep your wood top covered?
Cold weather usually knocks it back too. I'll get it here on oak that isn't covered all the time. Usually just the cut ends in a stack.
We will get it on the logs we have stacked up sometimes before we get around to CSS. The fungus usually malem to bark come off easier. It seems to turn the sapwood punky pretty quick though. Won't really hurt anything, just not pretty.
My oak ends that are going on 3 years got some weird stuff growing off of them. It's all good. After a short dry spell toward the end of this month get that wood somewhere where it will stay completely dry til you need to use it this fall and burn away! I'll move my winter supply into the lean to the first week of September. That will give me a good month and a half until I start burning. Those last 45 days of complete dryness probably dont mean anything with 3 year old wood but it gives me peace of mind.
