well thought I would pass along some of the things I have learned over the years. I am currently building a shoe lazy susan for the wife for the master bedroom closet. This cabinet will be floor to ceiling and work like your kitchen lazy susan, only it will hold shoes and necklaces. I will try to remember to take and post pics as I go but I will post finished ones, hopefully by weeks end. So in the process of doing this I need to glue up a 45 degree angle which can be annoying but there is a simple way. Follow along, after ripping your 22.5 degree cuts you lay the birds out on the bench point to point. Next use shipping tape to tape them together. After taping flip them over and apply glue fold the pieces together and clamp gently clean off excess glue and let dry overnight, the next morning you will have a nice tight seam
these are the top and bottom of the cabinet the cabinet will be 42x42 along the wall. it is 60 inches on the diagonal and each rowing shelf will be 24x28. It will make more sense as it goes together.
Good thing there was no rolling involved in making this joint...would have made for an awkward thread title... Nice tip!
Wound up working on some other things yesterday, but made some good progress today. started by setting the base and assembled each shelf section in place, it is very deceiving as to how heavy this thing is. The cabinet and shelves consist of 6 4x8 sheets with almost no waste. the shelf assembly sit on a 12" ball bearing turntable rated for 350 lbs. the top is a simple 3/8 steel rod as a pivot Couple of pics, did not take as many as I hoped had to keep concentrated on the shelf assy. level, plumb and square
Each shelf is 24" deep and 28" wide so 12x28 on each side, Four pairs of the wife's shoes sit on each shelf. On the ends there will be hooks for belts and necklaces, she literally has several hundred necklaces. I had originally planned to have curved ends on the shelves so she would have more shelf space but she decided to go for necklace storage. Next up is the cabinet for storing the iron and ironing board, then the clothing shelves and rods. And for those wondering, it is not as much wasted space as it appears. The corner of a closet can only be used from one side so you loose space there anyway. The sq. footage of the shelves is 46.6 sq. ft. total
