I'm wanting to put the ceiling support box for woodstove at the second floor ceiling so alot of the air around the single wall goes straight up plus the heat in the pipe gets put in the room not out the top. Is there anything wrong with doing this besides the clearance issue from wall on second floor? Im looking at using a barrel stove this year with a quarter to a half of it extending out into the room on the bottom floor. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk

Is it a straight shot up to roofline/second floor ceiling? Presume you want to run straight pipe to ceiling, then through the roof? BTW, welcome aboard.
Yes it will brca straight shot all the way up to second floor ceiling. I just built this last year. Presently though the triple wall comes directly off the stove. I put some framing at the second floor level but that was to trap the heat for the first floor but that didn't work. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Tapatalk
Clearance to Combustibles aside, I guess this is what I’m having difficulty visualizing.... Maybe a sketch? And if you’re having trouble posting pics, let me ask you this...are you using the “thumbnail” size option after you upload the pic? Just ask if you have any doubts or questions.
Just remember that what you want to do is dependent on clearance requirements. It may need to stick out farther than you want. Alcoves have a bit of a different set of rules.
So that’s your take on the suggested layout? Hadn’t thought of that. Growing up, we had a 55 gallon drum stove in the basement (no alcove tho) and a 33 gallon in our little cabin in the Catskills (corner install).... operated properly, they can throw some serious (almost dangerous) heat.... don’t ask me how I know (read=I got the 33 gallon glowing orange ). Sorta reading between the lines (or, not really), I surmised he'd like to install in alcove and have it stick out 1/4 to 1/2 way into the room. Barrel stove in an alcove sounds a bit iffy depending on the size of the stove AND alcove.
I concur! I'd look at a cheap box store stove before installing a barrel stove in a home Unless you are self insuring or just don't have any you will have a heck of a time getting a insurance company to insure you with a unlisted stove. You will soon be tired of running back and forth feeding the beast as well. A few random thoughts! Best of luck. Winter is heading our way. Keep researching. Lots of good info here and elsewhere.
