Dropped by a garage sale today and saw a Stihl 390 with 24" bar and 4 new chains, sharp with plenty of tooth. It had great compression and everything works, bar is in great shape. Not my favorite saw ( I own a 391 and it is kind of a tank) But I got it for $125. I thought it was a stihl. See what I did there? Since I have the 391, I will probably flip this on Craig's List. Maybe save up for a 362! chainsaw2.jpg

Good deal. I like your plan. Are you keeping a couple of chains?

I will look them over and maybe keep the two best ones. I normally run skip tooth chisel bit chains though.

Ya 125$ is a great deal. That saw would easily fetch 200-300$ around where I live.

I stuck it on Craig's list for $325 with 2 extra chains. We will see I guess! Hope for a quick turnover. If I scrape the money together and get a 362 with a 20" bar, that will mean I'll have the 260/20" for limbing and lighter work. The 362/20" for general all around and the 391/24" for bucking larger trees. (No love, that's not new, I've always had three saws)

Maybe the 362 would be better for larger trees? Little more grunt, and abit lighter too. Ofcourse I end up cutting with the 391 I bought more as I bought it to leave in my truck year round. I hope someone pucks up your 390. Good luck!

My thought was to leave the 391 with a dedicated 24"bar since I already have it. The 362/20" would have all that snap and snort for general use and I wouldn't have to change it back and forth to the 24"bar for larger trees. I guess I could sell the 391 also but then I would only have 2 saws and that's just crazy talk, right?

If someone pucked up my 390 I'd tell 'em to keep their stick on the ice...or else! ;) :p

Great find. The last Stihl I saw at a barn sale was marked $35. The guy told me if I was creative, I could get it running. I passed....lol
