Made my yearly trip to the Empire Farm Days today. Looked at all sorts of equipment, had a nice BBQ beef sandwich for lunch, stopped at a couple of wineries, and came home. Decided to go and mow my Mothers lawn-went to put the blower in the truck-no trailer hitch!!

Must be someone decided they needed it more than me. It was a stainless steel hitch that I have had 14 years-bought it when my 2004 Tundra was brand new. Not a big loss in the grand scheme of things, but something I wouldn't have suspected happening there.

Well, that sux. It was probably a team with one shadowing you, while the hitch was removed.

Unfortunate and maddening. The world seems to be generating more and more SCUMBAGS every day.

My hitch is locked or under my seat. I’m sorry some POS stole from you and that karma drops the hitch on his toe.

May their shins and knees be forever bruised and bleeding. I'm mean like that when it comes to thieves.

I quit leaving the hitch in when I drive the truck and need to park it in a public place.
My previous truck had the trailer plug (RV) missing when I bought it...just the factory wiring harness/multi-connector hanging down. The PO said he ran into Walmart for a minute, came back out and it was gone...they just took the bolts out, unplugged it, and gone!

Being 14 years old hopefully he hooks his nice new trailer to it and that tiny stress crack lets go and away runs his trailer.

well maybe not in todays world he would probably sue you and win.

I'm surprised i haven't had mine stolen, but, i leave it on to keep people from ramming my pickup in the rear. I should just take it off for now since i'm not using it.

I've never had that problem around here, lucky maybe.

Last truck we got rid of, had to chain the hitch to a tree because it was so solid rusted into the receiver.

Got it out though, not sure that the tree was impressed.

The scum of the earth. Hate that.

In MI at least, it is actually illegal to leave the hitch in when it is not in use. That is because of possible people bumping knees or doing so much damage in a collision. However, it is not enforced. That really is a shame too because for those who are not aware, it could get costly if in an accident and people sue.

Wow, wasn't aware of that, Dennis.
Guess I should go and take mine out of the receiver. However, the one on the Jeep is pretty well rusted in place. Next step.............heat, and a big hammer.

Your front and rear bumpers are safety devices and you are supposed to maintain their original manufactured point of first contact at all times.

Every state has different standards though for modifying bumpers so you would have to check with your local DOT for both rules on the books and what they actually ticket for. Keeping in mind if you pizz a cop off and he's looking for a long list of cites modifications can easily be added.

Well I took a mount off from the RTV and bought a ball and was in business. Been considering buying an aluminum adjustable mount with reversible 2" and 2 5/16 balls. I guess I'll buy locks for them. I use the trailer 2-3 times a week during the summer, so I know I'll never remember to take it off and put it back in all the time.
