Saw a blow over about 1/4 mile up from my house on the hillside. I tried just yanking it out by the roots....it wouldn't have none of that. Went back with the saw and now I'm the proud owner of two 8' by 10" rock elm logs. They're not common to find blown over around here... I might put it in my "special pile" with the persimmon and dogwood.

Got it split with the hydraulic splitter....love the way elm "releases" as you're running the ram through it. Left them on the large side.

Then I split the rest of the wood I had laying around from a few trees I cut a week ago. Left to right: tulip poplar, boxelder, hackberry, and the rock elm.

Looks like that rock elm splits fairly good.
