Hello Just got this new HF CE Heat gun but the manual does not relate temp setting with the applications. 1500 Watt 12 Interval Heat Gun 430°-800° /570°-1160° What setting is best for 18 or20 Guage strandEd copper wire with 5/32” diameter shrink Wrap? Here is my application. I warmed it up and tried 650 Deg F and varied the distance with good luck. Whitfield- Fixing a worn or broken T-Stat spring terminal like OEM !
Shrink it til it stops shrinking, but no further. If the HS has adhesive, stop when you see the clear adhesive start to escape from the end. Prolonged heat will over shrink the tube (opposite to cold induced shrinkage ) and split it. Have fun.
Thanks for the tips! When I saw it tight, I stopped. It came out nice. It was easier than I thought. The shrink wrap insulated the solder connection very well, whether it needed it or not.
Looks good don2222 One of my co-workers has a butane heat shrink wand, it's pretty nice. Used it quite a lot a couple of years ago when our department was slow and I went on the manufacturing floor to help wire up test rigs. (I work in our inspection department ordinarily.) Nice thing about being able to read wiring diagrams and blueprints, have not been laid off in the 15+ years I've worked there.
