So, after replacing the saddle valve with a real ball valve, I am getting what I think is water hammer? When I shut off the water dispenser at the fridge or the fridge stops adding water for ice, it pluses the supply line (1/4" copper) making quite a noise.

Current fridge is Whirlpool, previous fridge was LG and did not make any noise at all. I did not have the Whirlpool hooked up to water until I changed the valve so I dont know if the cause is from the fridge's valve design or the new valve supplying higher flow or pressure.

The reducing tee and valve are on a 3/4" water line and adding an arrestor near the valve would be a royal beatch due to no room.

    Any thoughts here?

My guess is that you now have a better flow/more pressure at the frig., and valve closing has to stop that..........hammer.

Yeah, I caved on the last fridge and got one that makes ice cubes and did the same with the new Whirlpool. Sometimes I wish I didnt

Although I do like having ice cubes all the time. Water, meh I get that from the faucet.

Should have left the dam saddle valve in :picard:

Does the arrestor need to be near the valve?

AFAIK, it just has to be on the same supply pipe that you think has the problem.

Have you tried partially closing the 3/4" valve, assuming it is the primary cutoff / only feed to the refrig. supply line ?

I’ve found I have needed arrestors near sources of water hammer in my home. Especially with newer valves on things like a fridge or dishwasher.

Maybe plumb it in where you have work space before the new valve?

I do enjoy the ice feature on mine. Filtered ice+water.

Yeah, tried that when I realized what the issue was. Didnt change anything which leads me to believe its pressure related and not flow related.

Valve is in a tight area and was a motha to install

Would the arrestor work better near the fridge? Its about 10 feet from the valve, which is in the basement
